Bradford Slitty 2 - 1 North Witch Victoria

Newly promoted Conference side North Witch Victoria turned up with a real chance of beating Bradford Slitty, a fallen giant of yesteryear.

Bradford though dominated the game throughout as their tackles were crisper removing NWV players regularly and they managed to pressure the ball whenever they lost possession. Dean Richards the club captain scored Bradford's opener in the first half before Wayne Jacobs made teh lead 2-0 late in the second half. NWV did score a late consolation goal following a riot that saw a Bradford defense set up much deeper than normal.






Grimsby Town 1 - 2 Bradford Slitty



Grimsby slected a very attacking formation with 4 strikers, 4 tough tackling midfielders 2 defenders and a goal keeper for this match against their visitors; Yorkshire and Conference rivals Bradford SLitty.


Bradford turned up fresh from their friendly win over North Witch Victoria earlier in the day with defender Andy O'Brien missing the game carrying a slight knock. allowing a youth team prospect, Graham Silentstream to step up to the LOS in Andy's place.



The game started with Bradford taking possession and running about a lot with some nice passes, but no penetration behind a solid Grimsby defence. One veteren journalist from local rag, The Grimsby Daily Haddock stated in 27 years of watching Grimsby Town he had never seen such stirling defensive work and that they should play with 4 strikers every game!



After a quarter of the game had passed the tackles started flying in and both sides became more desperate, Grimsby to take out theball carrier and Bradford to fashion an opportunity to take the ball behind teh Grimsby line.

As the 1st half started coming to an end Braford made the breakthrough releasing Dean Windass to scamper of the line for his first TD for the club. The half ended with Grimsby almost racing through the Bradford defence for an equaliser, showing Bradford how its done...Clive Mendonca demonstrating his excellent scoring abilities at lower league level.



In the second half Grimsby looked pretty good with the ball and started to make some ground as they whittled down the Bradford defenders gaining a three man advantage mid-way through the first half. Suddenly it all turned as Bradord got three men off the picth and it was 7 v 7 again. The inspired the Bradford team to take possession from the demoralised Grimsby squad who had lost the ball. A quick pass to David Wetherall saw him scamper home for a second Bradford goal.

A brief flurry near the end saw Grimsby bravely go for the equaliser to no avail.

Slitty take a win in a close if somewhat frustrating game for Grimsby who might have felt the deserved a draw for their endeavours.

Bradford Slitty make it 2 wins out of 2 in pre-season and look forward to extending this form into the season-proper when pythrr cuts the Proverbial Gordion Knot and allows Alexander to invade Persia....well at least Dragonmaw's backfield Smile
