There seems to be a bit of a dispute over what to call the OT scoring rules. Let's settle this once and for all, shall we?
Edited for clarity. |

At most of the times it will also be called the lucky coin flip. |

Sudden death is the format how OT is played, meaning first goal ends it all. And the actual goal is golden goal. |

Neither of your options make any sense to me....
The "Golden Goal" spoken of in Canada after the last Olympics was called that because it won the gold medal game. No where have I ever heard of anyone using it as a standard term for an over-time goal.
Sudden Death is the system, not the goal. I've like-wise never heard anyone say, "He scored the Sudden Death", more likely, "For over-time in this league, it's a Sudden Death set up, first goal wins".
Dare I ask why this question came up? |

It felt more like a Golden TD than a sudden death ten minutes ago. |

"Golden Goal" is a football term, from when the first goal scored in extra time was the winner. There was also "Silver Goal" for a while, when the game finished at half time in extra time if the scores were different. |

Mac, it's soccer speak. A few world cup's back FIFA termed the sudden death winner in OT (or extra time, in FIFAese) as the golden goal. A silver goal was a goal that won you the game if you led at half time / full time in Extra Time. Soccer has 2 halves of extra time, unlike Hockey, so a silver goal meant that if you led at the halfway point (15 mins) of the 30 min extra time, then you iz win. Golden goal was sudden death, like "normal" OT goals.
As an interesting tidbit, most of the goals I have ever scored have been Tinny Goals. Boom boom! |

Really? Wow. The things you learn from hairy men on the internet.......
Never heard it, and though I'm hardly a massive fan I do tend to watch the big cups... maybe I've never seen OT.... |

It was only played that way for a short while I think...wikipedia to the rescue:
The game finishes when a golden goal is scored. Introduced formally in 1992, though with some history before that, the rule was abandoned from the majority of FIFA authorized games in 2004. The similar silver goal supplemented the golden goal between 2002 and 2004.
Ok 12 years, the blink of an eye really.
Nowadays you have 2x15min extra time and if still tied after 30mins it's penalty shoot out. |
