True, "those dwarves" "only" won the cup twice out of 3 rounds. And in the 3rd round they "only" made it to the semifinals. "Those" poor "dwarves". Smile

Yes, it's that time again; the long-awaited OWCC Draft is finally here. The New Bretonnia Expats and the Black Mountain FORC'ers originally met to carry out the crucial drafting process, but after the Orcs got a bit rowdy and trashed the famous OWCC Draft Hall, they were kicked out and replaced by the runners-up in the Bretonnia Conference last season, the Luccini Renegades. It's all sorted now though, and here are the results:

Round 1
Death Pass Pillagers automatically drafted to Albion
Magritta Intrusive Tentacles automatically drafted to Albion
Serpents Coast Scavengers automatically stay in Bretonnia
Luccini Renegades automatically stay in Bretonnia

The first round was taken up with a lot of negotiating after the late transfer of power from the FORC'ers to the Renegades. The new Orc team, the Death Pass Pillagers, were automatically drafted in to the Albion Conference to balance the FORC'ers in Bretonnia, and the Scavengers were forced to remain in Bretonnia for the same reason. Once the Renegades were brought in to draft for the Bretonnia Conference, the other Nurgle team, the new Magritta Intrusive Tentacles, were sent to Albion.

With that admin completed, the first actual picks were made in the second round...

Round 2
Chaos Waste Cavaliers drafted to Bretonnia
Wasteland Vagabonds automatically drafted to Albion
Morgheim Minions stay in Albion
Uzkulak Pirates automatically transferred to Bretonnia

With their first pick, the Renegades chose the Chaos Waste Cavaliers (one of the two new Chaos teams available) to join the Bretonnia Conference. The other new Chaos team, the Wasteland Vagabonds, were sent to Albion as a result. The Expats then picked the Morgheim Minions, one of the two Pact teams in the Albion last season, to remain with them in Albion. This meant the Uzkulak Pirates were transferred to the Bretonnia Conference.

Round 3
Appucini Avengers drafted to Bretonnia
Wuppertal Wizards stay in Albion

The Appucini Avengers won all their games in the recent Expansion Division competition, and were rewarded by a promotion to the Bretonnia Conference in the third round. The Expats then chose to keep the Wuppertal Wizards in Albion for another season, prompting speculation that they were trying to recreate as precisely as possible the same league that they won last season!

Round 4
Tuarec Exiles stay in Bretonnia
Grey Mountains Deep Evil automatically stay in Albion
Nidhoggstad Icedragons transferred to Albion

In last season's fourth round, two wood elf teams were assigned conferences and the Icedragons were transferred. This time, something very similar happened again when the Tuarec Exiles were re-signed for the Bretonnia Conference, keeping the Deep Evil in Albion, before the Icedragons were transferred back to the Albion Conference.

Round 5
Mousillon Blood Knights transferred to Bretonnia
Amazon Isle Rangers stay in Albion

Before the draft, the Blood Knights had pleaded to be transferred back to Bretonnia, claiming that they "missed the croissants", and they got their wish in the fifth round as the Renegades signed them. The Expats then kept the Amazon Isle Rangers in Albion for another season.

Round 6
Barak Varr Goldlords transferred to Bretonnia
Black Chasm Rush transferred to Albion
Sylvania Bonegrinders stay in Bretonnia

In a blatent attempt to disrupt the Barak Varr Goldlords' impressive winning streak, the Renegades decided to transfer them to Bretonnia; this is the first time they will not feature in the Albion Conference in their three season history. In return, the Expats brought the Black Chasm Rush back over to Albion. Finally, in an extreme role reversal, last season's very first pick became this season's last pick as the Sylvania Bonegrinders were re-signed to the Bretonnia Conference.

Well, that was the third OWCC Draft. We have since received confirmation from Black Chasm that the Rush will not be using their Royal Pardon this season, choosing instead to stick with their place in the Albion Conference and keep the Pardon in reserve for a future draft.

Are you happy with your Conference this season? Which team got the best out of the draft?

(The season will be kicking off this evening!)

The Pillagers got picked first . . . That means we're the best, right? Right? (haha)

An interesting draw, can't wait to get started

Don't worry, you were only picked first on a technicality, because there can only be one orc team per conference and the FORC'ers won the Bretonnia Conference last season so are guaranteed to stay there.

In other news, Season IV has kicked off! First round deadline is the 5th October.

Also, congratulations to our two new league staff members, uzkulak and Winni, on their "promotion". Get your games sorted, or you'll have to answer to them!

Well I'm not surprised that Black Chasm Rush didn't use their pardon!

I will be quite amazed not to see them in the cup this season, definitely the favourites in Albion. (sorry gjopie, but you know its true...)

Bretonnia looks like a tight affair. The Goldlords are hoping that they wont be so overwhelmed by strange fluffy pastries in their first season that they lose their fabled resilience on the pitch.

I don't respond well to pressure! Sad

Yeah, I had a list of teams I wanted to avoid, and most of them (but not quite all) are in the Bretonnia this season, so was a fairly easy decision.

I'd also like to point out that whichever conference BCR have been in has always gone on to win the Inter-Conference Shield that season. Just saying. Coincidence? You decide...

OWCC League Records
All-Time Records

As the Old World Challenge Cup enters its fourth season, let's take a look at some of the current records that have been achieved by players over the past three seasons. But first, some stats: There are currently 340 active players across the 28 current teams. Those 28 teams have seen 75 players die on the pitch, and 43 have retired.

Star Player
Image
Urdithane, Uzkulak Pirates, 78 SPP

Urdithane has played 25 games for the Pirates, racking up 13 touchdowns, 15 completions and 2 casualties. While he is undeniably the star player of the league, he only holds one other record (most completions), and has never had a single season record. Urdithane is fast, agile, hard to take down, and not afraid of getting a tackle in - in other words, the perfect blood bowl all-rounder.

Top Scorer
Image
Dilug Bog Sitter, Black Mountain FORC'ers, 15 touchdowns

Dilug Bog Sitter is the star ball-carrier of the successful Black Mountain FORC'ers, and with 15 touchdowns in 23 games, is also the top all-time scorer within the OWCC. He has also won the season's top scorer and top rusher awards for the past two seasons running, and he doesn't look like slowing down. While he isn't quite as agile or fast as Urdithane, he is a lot tougher, and you'd expect him to outlast, and possible out-achieve, the Pirate.

Best Runner
Image
Morten Windrunner, Nidhoggstad Icedragons, 334 rushing yards

The appropriately named Morten Windrunner has carried the ball for 334 yards in 18 games for the Nidhoggstad Icedragons. However, he has only converted all that distance in to 9 touchdowns, and while 1 touchdown every 2 games isn't a bad return, it leaves Morten a long way off challenging for the top scorer award.

Most Blocks and Most Violent
Image
Jogug Rat Licker, Black Mountain FORC'ers, 28 casualties, 229 blocks

Jogug Rat Licker is the second of the triumvirate of star players for the FORC'ers (the third being Aguk Arm-Shoota, who just misses out on making this list), causing 28 casualties in 229 blocks across 22 games. A nasty player in the modern mould, he hits players hard, and if they aren't injured when they hit the floor, he jumps up and down on their prone bodies until they are. He came in to his own during the second season of the OWCC, where he set the record for most casualties caused in a single season.

Most Completions and Most Passing Yards
Image
Harshniz, Black Mountain Bully Boyz, 15 completions, 79 passing yards

The Bully Boyz only competed in the first season of the OWCC, and it is a testament to their unique passing game that their star thrower, Harshniz, remains in the record books after all this time. Honourable mention must go to Urdithane, who also has 15 completions (but for only 37 yards), but Harshniz managed to achieve this in just 12 games!

Dirtiest Player
Image
Arrogance, Luccini Renegades, 15 fouls

The accolade of "dirtiest player" could go to any one of the nurgle players the league has seen, but the dirtiest in the sporting sense was undoubtedly Arrogance. Before his retirement, Arrogance managed to commit 15 fouls in just 8 games during the league's second season. He may well lose his record this season, though, as his replacement, Myyry, is only 6 fouls away from matching it.
