Do you want to have the choice to always pick one of the Hive Mind's two most commen skills? |
Yes, it makes team building way more interesting. |

No, let's keep it straight and always take the most common skill. |

Here's a Cube pitch without a number. You can easily add it in Gimp (or similar), but don't use Paint as it will fill the transparency with white.

@MolonLave - Thanks for the pitch. I will be using it.
@Rabe - I guess I am dense. Looking at the rules confuses me. For primary skills it makes sense. For secondary and stats I am confused. If I read this correctly I can choose to save SPP to get a secondary skill. If I do that the first skill a lineman would pick up is Dodge. |

Almost! You may not choose, you have to save up for a secondary, if that skill has priority (as it is with Dodge right now).
@Dalfort: Well done! Impressive victory! Block is not the first choice, it has to be Dodge. If the Drones are not ready for that, wait until they are. |

Ok. So given that there are many more than 6 skills on the chart now, how does a drone ever get a stat increase? |

In the current situation (Hive Mind state, rules) and assuming you have (only) 12 players on the team, the following would have to occure:
- a player already has Dodge and Block (or your other 11 players have both skills, which seems unlikely)
- your team already has 4x Thick Skull, 2x Frenzy, Guard and Tackle, 1x Mighty Blow, Side Step, Leap, Jump Up, Foul Appearance, Sure Handy and Dauntless
- your player has enough SPP to afford the stat upgrade (otherwise they can save up to it and buy it if the aformentioned requirements are still met by that time
Yeah, that makes getting stat increases pretty unlikely.
I'm open for other suggestions, I just don't want to leave decisions to the coaches. Another option would be that we collect data on stat upgrades as well (so far it has been 2x +MA and 1x +AG) and treat them like a skill. Since you cannot plan what stat up a player gets, we could combine all recorded stat upgrades and make it thereby much more likely. By now, since we spottet 3 upgrades so far, stat upgrades would be ranked 7th on our list.
Edit: I quite like my last idea. |

Indeed. In general, killing players can quickly lead to dramatic changes in skill selection (at this point at least). And between Block and Dodge it has been head-to-head almost from the start. |

totally agree on collecting stat upgrade stats. This would 'fix' the problem. Great idea. |

I don't think that will fix the problem. In the current edition almost no one will save up to get stats. Once seasons is implemented you won't see them. I think that is sad.
My suggestion is that a stat must be the 3rd skill taken on a player and that the skill must be random. No Choice for the Borg. |

If not taking stats is the current meta, then the Borg will copy that, sadly. It's the basic premise on how we learn... |

The collective has many different kinds of drones, medical, marines, technical. They get their own implants to better serve their role, for the collective.
So a team starts with basic collectors, right.
Block/Frenzy/Tackle sort of drones.
Once filled, the roles shift to carriers.
Block/Foul Appearance/Sure Hands.
A technical role, of course, for the common problems.
Block/Dauntless.
Once the common roles are filled, secondary roles become accessible, defensive specialists.
Block/Dodge/Thick Skull/Guard
Maybe an improved collector.
Block/Dodge/Mighty Blow
And should an Elf be gathered later, ...
Dodge/Block/Side Step/Leap/Jump Up
Bigger bodied drones have their place,
Thick Skull/Guard/Dodge/Block
Stats? Yes, once all the roles are properly filled, as the collective wills, general shield upgrades come on line for drones with basic capabilities finished.
Block/Dodge/+AV/+AV
--
Which is to say, take primaries until the team has "enough", then take secondary skills the same way. Baller might get Dodge, or run into Dauntless first, or a Frenzy/Tackle implant set frees up due to common recycling needs.
Seems better for collecting, really, which, well, how else do we become better drones? |

Mmmm. I propose the following: Of the six improvements a drone can get, four must be primary, taken in the order the hive has set. One must be a stat - taken as per the hive's collection(ie, whatever is most common). One must be a secondary, as per the hive's collection.
The discussion has been amusing, but until changed, the Hive rules as per the Hive's group page will be followed by Cube 003. |

Major Update
After a thorough evaluation process and a multi-scenario-simulation of Cube/Drone development, the upgrading routine for Drones has been optimized towards development speed and efficiency. The Hive Mind code has been updated accordingly.
I decided to go with the idea of (only) Primary choice skills first until the team maximum for a skill is reached. Thereby teams and players develop much faster (due to lower SPP costs) and - at least with the current skill choices - better, as I reckon that mass Block is much better than mass Dodge on an AG 4+ team and there's a nice synergy between Tackle, Frenzy and (potentially) assimilating more opponents.
We will see a bigger variety of skills much earlier in team development but will have to wait ab bit longer for skills like Guard and Mighty Blow - in SPP terms at least.
Finally, "Characteristic Upgrades" (a.k.a. stat upgrades) are in the list now as well and equate Secondary choice skills in the process, so stat upgrades have priority over some Secondary choice skill, depending on their ranks in the list.
Edit: Just realized that I had falsely classified Thick Skull as Mutation... since it's a Strength skill, we will get through the Primary choice skills even more quickly! |
