There are bad apples everywhere, but in general, this is a welcoming community. I don't know what happened in your case, but IRC generally gives a neutral to friendly welcome, in my experience. |
I offered to look into this on the other forum topic, however received no response.
Looks like he'd rather troll about it.
I think I can draw a conclussion from this. |
There is no point what I find to be un welcoming you probably will think other wise so no action will be taken any way so there is no point really taking the matter further and to just leave at that and just use the PM system to find games. |
Fine, then do so or use it for game chat only not for socialising. No need for the negativity on 2 threads.
For reference, FUMBBL does not tolerate bullying, and the staff takes all claims of such seriously. |

You don't actually have to 'chat' in the main channels. It is just easier to arrange a game and resolve problems if your opponent can find you in #fumbbl or #fumbblBlackbox
Select your opponent and chat privately. |

when i'm lfg and don't find the other coach on IRC i generally ignore the team and go to something else. It's too slow and troublesome to do it the PM way for me So if it's sometimes hard to find a Ranked game, doing it via PM makes it even harder... |

Tum te tum - at my school, when I load an IRC program it gets stuck on 'connecting', and I simply never can connect - I've listed this on the team bio page for any team I use gamefinder with. Does anyone know of a way around this? Would mibbit avoid that? |

PM makes finding ranked games a lot easier/better.
What sort of netbook can't run IRC? Display limitations aside, my 2-year-old netbook is more powerful than the desktop I had 6 years ago. I run IRC/FFB no problem. |

Not enough ram for irc but enough ram to run the java client?
I use an old client that I've used since about 1999 and on my old computer when every single program eventually lagged the only program that always ran perfectly was my IRC client.
Of course I'll be honest. I have no idea how ram works So I might just be talking out of my behind.
Now I don't mind the lack of people on IRC and I've noticed going more for PM-based challenges and with the blackbox matchups and everything being simpler it's a lot easier to get a match set up over all kinds of things.
But I'd still like more people to be on IRC. There's something about live interaction that just isn't the same as talking on a forum. |

I have a netbook. I use the ubuntu ( www.ubuntu.com ) distribution of the Linux OS. This comes with an IRC capable program that runs easily with minimal system resource usage.
So, it's not a system issue, though it could be an issue with some clients (particularly if windows is installed, monolith that it is). |

There are some technical reasons not using irc, main one of these being some corporation firewalls (which may then in many cases forbid playing FFb also...).
Still, I feel that for many people IRC feels a bit distant, nerdish, way of communicating. I have many friends that prefer IM or Facebook over IRC.
Personally, I would like people to use IRC for some general reasons: its open standard (you can pick your client, it works in Win, Linux, Mac, Symbian, Android and others) and free from big brotherism (no need to register, no surveillance).
I would also like people to use IRC to arrange games on FUMBBL as it really is the technology used in here. I feel it would be polite to try to learn the methods and tools that are used here. The community does not require you to give money or tell your identity, instead it asks you to *learn*.
Making effort is a beautiful thing! Help others or at least try your best. |

I tried explaining to some guys what IRC chat was, they concluded it was something like DOS
Have to remember these buzzwords: Open standard and free from big brotherism, it sounds good.
About Hydra-Irc is there any way to make the client make a sound or start flashing in the program-tray(or what it's called) when someone mentions your name in chat or starts a private convasation with you? |
