I wonder if I made a team based around the cult TV show The Prisoner of the 1960s (not the crappy remake) would we be allowed to call the players 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 (obviously not 1 though as no one knows who he is).

I've thought long about making a team with some take on "Barely Legal" or something for its team name, then naming players per otherwise-illegitimate naming schemes. Players with names like "asdf", "Lineman #3"*, "Leggy", "4", etc.

*Even better, Lineman #3 is neither a lineman nor a #3 anything, just some Blitzer or something named Lineman #3.

I think there should just be some kind of random name generator which will kick in if player's name input field was left empty upon his "birth". That would have solved most of the naming problems. I think there are plenty of ready to use server-side scripts in different languages with such functionality..

Edit: or, even better, it should offer some randomly generated name from the start of player's creation process, but will allow to change it to your liking.

I get through a lot of snots and usually just name them after household objects in sight at the time.

Chair, Table, Colostomy Bag -- all valid names, and much better than "brt3".

Also, there is a special place in hell for coaches who name the players on EVERY ONE of their teams exactly the same.
