I logged back in after being gone for two years to find a totally different world here at Fumbbl! Wowza! Totally different mind-blowing client (thanks goes to those that have developed this) and website feels and looks refreshed and vibrant. I was thankful to see that the community thriving still (obviously, I didn't help any there). The game is no longer Bloodbowl, but Fantasy Football?! Did the Official Bloodbowl PC game get territorial? Anyways...
My first two matches were with one of my favorites the Skyre Smash! and the first game I got taken to the woodshed, getting beat 3-0 and the second game I started to pull my old tricks from my aging memory and finished 2-2 with a bit of luck.
I was able to skill up my GutterRunner to 76 SP's and he rolled double 5's. I debated +MA vs Horns and took Horns in the end. Horns on a GutterRunner go together like Beer and Pizza!
It was a lot of fun and I'm glad I have some time again to play one of my top favorite games, BloodBow... err, Fantasy Football!

About your question:

The reason is that GW's lawyers sent Cease and Desist mails to Christer in order to protect BB IP.
As consequence, every reference to BB and GW copyrighted stuff had been removed from the site in order to avoid any legal issue.

Probably it wasn't connected. The BB IP was up for renewal around that time, and the most likely reason was to protect this.
Other sites around the same time got similar letters. Another rumour around that time was based on a certain character in their legal department.
