Dear Reader,

We are duly familiar with the toils and strifes that take place in Blood Bowl pitches scattered across the Old World and the New, but what of further afield?

Let us turn our gaze to distant lands in a warmer climate, where small nation states cluster round a coastline and islands in a shining turquoise sea, where wealth and food are plentiful, where life grows decadent on spice, perfume, and gold, and where the rulers of such lands indulge in equally decadent and petty rivalries.

None of these rivalries are so fierce as that between the ancient and immortal vampire Sheikh Mansoor, ruler of a golden city on the coast, and the legendary and daring pirate princess Maharani Padmini. With fiefdoms too small for outright war, and in any case with populations of a temperament completely unsuited to such, the Sheikh and Maharani pursued their feud thus far through assassination, trade wars, and good old piracy for slaves and treasure.

But now, word of the noble sport of Blood Bowl has reached these distant lands and, entranced by its violent and who-dares-wins nature, the Sheikh and Maharani came to an accord, and set their wisest wazirs the task of creating a contest for them through which they could see the sport indulged to its fullest extent.

The wazirs burned much lamp oil, and using many hawks exchanged many tiny notes with spidery writing to combine their most mystical mathematics, and thus was born the Secret League Invitational Challenge Cup.

You find yourself approached by one of the Sheikh's or Maharani's munshis abroad with an offer; leave this land behind, and sign a well-paid contract to take your team to a tournament unlike any other...

SLICC is a league using Secret League teams with the CIBBL roster amendments, star players, and ruleset. Aside from SL teams, the key feature is that each season the divisions get shuffled, with the winners of each division staying put, and picking the teams who join them in that division in the next season.

Rules

Ruleset ID: 1721
- expensive mistakes at >150k.
- modified secret weapon rolls.
- custom SPP limits (6,16,31,51,76,126,176).
- no piling on.
- +1 to armour rolls when fouling.
- Right Stuff prevents Tackle skill when blocked.
- Sneaky Git functions as Guard on foul assists, and banned Sneaky Git players are sent to the KO box instead.

All Secret League teams excluding Pygmies and Werewolves. CRP stunty teams (Halfling, Goblin, Ogres, Underworld) are also allowed. There is a limit of one team of each roster. All teams have the corresponding CIBBL roster amendments. Each team has access to the corresponding CIBBL star players for their roster. Rolls will not be made for Changelings on Tzeentch teams, and these will be the SLO default of "Troll with Pro".

Teams and players should be themed and named appropriately to the Warhammer setting. Custom fluff, logos, and icons are encouraged, but by no means compulsory.

Ties in points the Conferences will be settled by the bracketed scores shown in the league table (TDΔ + CasΔ). Tie-breakers, if required in any other situations, are as follows:
Head-to-head (two-way ties only) -> TD difference -> CAS difference -> Coin toss.

Concessions are not permitted, nor are timeouts. Players are expected to play all games to the best of their ability with the intention of winning the competitions. Teams that go AWOL may be replaced or demoted to a lower conference. Players are expected to meet deadlines, and games may be forfeited if not played in time. Most players in the league are based in Europe.

League Overview - Click HERE for a poster describing the league structure!

Stages:
0) The Draft
1) The Conferences
2a) The Conference Cup
2b) The Inter-Conference Shield
2c) The Feeder Conference Play-Offs
2d) The Feeder Plate
2e) The Feeder Convocation
3) The Prizes
4) Friendlies

The league itself is structured around two rival divisions (conferences), between which the teams are evenly allocated (See The Draft, below). Depending on the number of players, there may also be one or more feeder conferences, in a lower tier, which play their own tournaments, and from which teams may get promoted to/relegated from the main conferences.

Each conference plays its own league in parallel (The Conferences). The best performing teams in both conferences face off to compete for The Conference Cup, while the other teams play against each other to defend the honour of their conference in The Inter-Conference Shield (and Feeder Plate).

The teams in each conference are re-drafted each season, and are chosen by the teams that won The Conference Cup.

Royal Pardons, that allow teams to switch to the other conference after the draft has taken place if they don't like the look of their opponents, can be awarded for certain accomplishments. Additional pardons are also available for stunty teams.

*******

0) The Draft

In the first season, nine teams were allocated randomly to the two main Conferences. The remainder were be allocated to the feeder conference(s). In subsequent seasons, the winners of The Conferences stay in their conferences, and take turns to pick which teams from the main conferences they want in their conference next season. The conference that did best in the Inter-Conference Shield gets first pick.

After teams are picked, any teams with Royal Pardons can use them to swap places with another team in the parallel Conference. A team can only be affected by a Royal Pardon once in a season, with the exception that a team can prevent itself from being moved if it spends a Pardon of its own. Conference champions/teams that did the picking for their Conference cannot be moved. If multiple Pardons are used at the same time, newer Pardons are resolved before older Pardons.

When there are two feeder Conferences, these will also draft in the same way as the two main Conferences. The teams that did best in each feeder Conference without getting promoted will stay in their Conference and do the picking. The feeder Conference that did best in the Feeder Plate gets first pick. Teams in the feeder Conferences with Royal Pardons can use them to switch to the other feeder Conference, as above.

*******

1) The Conferences

The two main conferences each play a 5-round, Swiss tournament with just the teams in their conferences, as do any feeder conferences.

The top three teams from the main Conferences proceed to The Conference Cup, with the winners automatically entering the finals.

All other teams in the main Conferences play in The Inter-Conference Shield, except for the two bottom teams in each main Conference, who instead enter the Feeder Conference Play-Offs with the four top teams from the Feeder Conference(s).

The remaining teams in the Feeder Conference(s) enter the Feeder Plate. If the Feeder Conferences each contain nine or more teams, then the remaining top five teams from each Feeder Conference will play for the Feeder Plate, and the remaining bottom teams will enter the Feeder Convocation.

*******

2a) The Conference Cup

Straight knock-out tournament. Winners of The Conferences automatically get byes to the semi-finals, while 2nd placers in each conference play the 3rd placers in the opposite conference.

Prize: A choice of one of two magic items, provided by the Sheikh and Maharani themselves.

*******

2b) The Inter-Conference Shield

The other teams from the conferences play their opposite numbers in the other division in three rounds. In the first round matchups are determined by conference standings, i.e. 4th plays 4th, 5th plays 5th, etc.

In the second round, the conference that did best in the previous round chooses the matchups.

In the third round, with the conference that didn't pick in the second round chooses the matchups.

If the Conferences are tied at the end of the first or third rounds, these will be decided first by overall Conference TD difference, and then CAS difference.

Prizes:
The Conference that wins the Shield (i.e. most wins) goes first in the draft next season.

The team that wins the most matches (tie-breakers: TDs, Cas, as above) gets a random titchy player (Snotling, Familiar, Pixie, Nurgling, Sprite, Spirit Host) added to their roster as a [0-1] positional next season.

All teams that win a match during the Shield get entered into a lottery for a Royal Pardon.

*******

2c) The Feeder Conference Play-Offs

Straight knock-out tournament. The winners of the Feeder Conference(s) automatically get byes to the semi-finals, while 2nd placers in the Feeder Conference(s) play the bottom placers from the two main Conferences.

The two finalists in the Feeder Conference Play-Offs enter the draft for the main conferences in the next season, and the winner receives a Royal Pardon. The other teams are relegated to the feeder conferences.

*******

2d) The Feeder Plate

If there are two feeder conferences then The Feeder Plate is played in the same way as the Inter-Conference Shield.

If there is only one feeder conference then either a 5-round Swiss tournament (if 8+ players) or a a knock-out tournament (if <8 players) will be played [NOTE: subject to change].

The team that does best in the Feeder Plate can nominate one of their players to receive a (predetermined) random mutation. If there are two feeder conferences then any teams that win games in the Plate enter a lottery to win a Royal Pardon.

*******

2e) The Feeder Convocation

The Feeder Convocation is played in seasons in which there are two or more Feeder Conferences with 9 or more teams each. It may also be played instead of the Feeder Plate, in seasons where there are too few teams.

The Feeder Convocation is an open round-robin tournament. The winning team is the team that plays the most games during the tournament. In the event of a tie, the win is determined by the following criteria, in this order:
- the team that lost the most games during the tournament;
- the team that has played the most games in its history;
- the team that scored the most touchdowns and caused the most casualties during the tournament note: i.e. TD+ + Cas+, as opposed to TDΔ + CasΔ).

The winning team will receive a magic item, randomly selected from the pool of un-chosen magic items in SLICC history, to be given to a player on the team of their choice.

*******

3) The Prizes

Teams that win The Conferences stay in their conference next season, and draft the teams that join them next season.

Teams that win The Conference Cup win their choice of one of two magic items provided by the Sheikh and Maharani.

The conference that wins The Inter-Conference Shield (i.e. most wins) goes first in the draft next season.

The individual team that wins the most matches in The Inter-Conference Shield gets a random titchy player (Snotling, Familiar, Pixie, Sprite) added to their roster as a [0-1] positional next season.

All teams that win a match during The Inter-Conference Shield get entered into a lottery for a Royal Pardon.

The two finalists in the Feeder Conference Play-Offs enter the draft for the main conferences in the next season, and the winner receives a Royal Pardon.

The team that wins the Feeder Plate can nominate one of their players to receive a (predetermined) random mutation. If there are two Feeder Conferences then all teams that win a match during the Feeder Plate enter a lottery for a Royal Pardon.

The team that wins the Feeder Convocation will receive a magic item, randomly selected from the pool of un-chosen magic items in SLICC history, to be given to a player on the team of their choice.

All stunty teams due to enter the main conferences next season enter their own lottery for a Royal Pardon. If there are two feeder conferences, then the stunty teams in those also enter a lottery for a Royal Pardon.

4) Friendlies

After the prizes are awarded, all teams enter a single division and can play up to two friendlies before prizes for the current season are awarded and the start of the next season. Friendlies are optional and are arranged by the teams themselves.
