BERGEN BLITZ THEIR WAY TO BUGMAN BREWERS GLORY
Bergen Blitzers 2-1 MDEC Marvels</b>

In a sensational game, the Bergen Blitzers became the third human team in SPUDS history to lay their hands on a trophy. Although, it never seemed that clear cut from the beginning as the halfling Marvels gobbled up the Blitzers re-rolls (courtesy of their chef), whilst a handicap meant that top scorer of the league - Bergen's Xisco - would be off the pitch!

However, the Blitzers took the first touch down within 3 turns due to the help of loaned star player, Zara the Slayer, who cut right down the wing. The Marvels attempted to get back in the game by using their two treemen (including the renowned Big Bird) to outmuscle the Bergen defence. In desperation, Big Bird chucked a poor little halfling up the field in the hope of making a dash for the touch zone: yet all he got in return was a visit to the hospital and a niggling injury. In all the confusion of the scattered ball, the little halflings were able to weave in and out of Bergen tackle zones, with Mini Martin able to score a Turn 8 equalizing touch down.

In the second half, the Bergen Blitzers were never as forgiving, pounding all they could out of the Marvel halflings. They menanced and able to grab the ball from the opposition possession, allowing Zara the Slayer to make a break for it again down the wing, scoring the Blitzers second of the game!

With just 3 turns remaining, prospects looked bleak for the Marvels. Yet again, they tried their luck at punting a little guy up the field, and this time, they almost pulled it off, as Chubbs landed safely and made a run for it. Only 5 spaces lay between him and the touch zone and an equalising goal. In panic, the Bergen players ran back to cover the player, one fist knocking Chubbs in the KO box, thus securing the win and the cup for Bergen.

What awaits this Bergen Blitzer team? They have a long road to travel to emulated the likes of the Clash and the Deadly Duckers (who between them have racked up many major finals). Yet they have a functioning squad ready to take on the giants!

YANCY BOYS NAB ANOTHER CUP
Yancy Street Gang 2-1 Geckos Lizkardia</b>

It has been a great run for the Gang: only two seasons ago they were the also-rans in the Bugman Brewers league. Fast forward to the present, and in their last 3 tournament outings they have won the Bugmans, the MCCC Open, and now, the Wiggum Bowl.

Yet it was never straight-forward. Hoping to stop them was new team, Geckos Lizkardia, who had beaten the Chaos side in their league encounter. Noting this, the Gang coach had spent 100K in loaning star player, Morg N Thorg, who played a starring role (including killing Gecko scoring and star player Gold Dust Day).

The Geckos nabbed the first touchdown, and it appeared that it would be the previous tie played out again. Yet the Gang played to their strengths, going up the field in slow bursts, using The Cage formation to perfection, laying into the lizkardmen turn after turn. In doing so, they managed to nab the equaliser before half-time, courtesy of beastman, Little Larry Lee. The second half was the same story, with the Gang moving up the field, Little Larry Lee holding the ball, and at right moment, bursting out of the cage and into the touch zone to make it 2-1. The Gang players held their hands in celebration at the final whistle.

There were no leading lights in the Gang play: yet, that is perhaps their biggest charm. Nobody steals the headlines, and they all muck in together. The team now have the biggest cup of all in their sights, the Spuds Bowl, to become the first team to win all 4 cup competitions (discounting the Little Leaguer). Holding his fist to the camera, captain Fatal Finnegan told all other teams to beware the Gang.
