Always had the potential for a close game between the Premier debutants, Northern Blight coming into the came under strength with some key players out injured...

Aberration Theatre set up to receive but Northen Blight was ready with a perfect defence, disrupting the first drive before it even begins. Theatre cages up around Groth Paleflesh but Yanovi 'Titan' Frostham has come to play, throwing himself into at the cage and KOing Paleflesh on turn 2. The ball spills loose and 2nd string thrower Chunkreski Ograpund scoops it up and makes for the end zone. Jonnie Charisma Jr and Axe McBane race back to try and prevent it but Ograpund shows composure and blitzes in for the first score.

Paleflesh is still recovering in the KO box so the Theatre sets up the next drive without him with Mork Blackhelm as the designated kick receiver. It's a shallow kick and JC Jr messes up his blitz causing a turnover before Mork can attempt to get to the ball. Things are looking grim as star catcher Oldbugmanof Perfectoss grabs the ball and moves back into safety. Turn 7 for the Blight and Perfectoss rushes through a hole in the defensive line making for the end zone and setting himself up for a possible turn 8 TD and almost certain victory. Theatre gets a break though, as inexperienced lineman Tribaleskie Fowluten skulls out his blitz, leaving Perfectoss out in the open with no cover. Mork Blackhelm levels Perfectoss with a 1d blitz and the ball spills free. Axe McBane picks it up and throws a slick pass to JC Jr who was waiting in perfect position to scamper through for the turn 8 TD.

Groth Paleflesh comes around as the Theatre setup on defence, perhaps a little carelessly, with the Blight last turn of the half still to come. Boonyaah Delecht takes the opportunity to ensure Jonnie Charisma won't cause any more damage by delivering a crunching blitz that leaves him badly hurt and out for the rest of the game.

It's 1 all with Northen Blight receiving; a steady drive up one side ensues and they look like taking control of the game. By turn 4 they've removed a couple of zombies and Mork Blackhelm from the pitch. Suddenly out of nowhere the normally very uninspiring Ted Pungo slips through the Norse line, dashing as far as his putrefied legs can take him to deliver a jarring blitz on Delecht. The ball spills into the crowd and it ends up back in the middle of the field. Fortunately Oldbugman Perfectoss has come to play and he quickly recovers the ball. A couple of turns later and some more great work from Perfectoss and Northen Blight is up 2 - 1, however onlookers wonder if with 2 turns remaining in the game and the Blight outnumbering the Necros 11 players on pitch to 6, if they should have gone for a brief stall to deny the Theatre another scoring opportunity.

Theatre sets up to receive with 8 players able to take the pitch. Blackhelm and Paleflesh are back deep to receive the kick off, but it's shallow, the ball landing right at Axe McBane's feet in the widezone. He picks it up and dashes forward behind the screening flesh golems. The Blight race to block the route to the end zone, 'Titan' Frostham gets the blitz on McBane but it fails to take him down. Last turn of the game - Macrame and Pumpkinhead clear the tackle zones from McBane, who runs wide around Perfectoss for the game tying score, leaving him wondering if he should have stretched himself further to cover the sideline.

A lucky for us 2 - 2 result in the end.

Cheers for the game Pat, good to see you picked up the first win straight after.

3 votes - Oldbugmanof Perfectoss (#15) Did everything but cover that sideline.

2 votes - Yanovi 'Titan' Frostham (#8) Despite failing to take out McBane in the last turn put in a solid effort, his first couple of turns put us on the back foot.

1 vote - Chunkreski Ograpund (#1) For his composed play early game to get the TD.

EDIT

Well, there's actually little I can add to JB's quite detailed post, except to confirm that I made three mistakes that lead to the draw. First, I failed to stall after moving to 1-0 up. I tried to put the stake in, so to speak and it backfired.

2nd mistake was not to stall again, when I was about to score to go 2-1 up. And finally, I didn't cover the sideline as I should have and was way too cautious with my defence. Of course, if nuffle hadn't let JB do some great passing and if Yanovi had taken out McBane with the RR like I'd liked, it would have been different. But it wasn't to be.
