“The first round of the OBBA saw Real Sociedead squaring up against Brighto Bigbrains… and were they indeed Bigbrains, then they would have stayed in their dressing rooms!

The Premiership Champions were led out by Gerardo García, followed by the mummies… a truly formidable site for a mainly rookie Norse Team.

The game got off to a very good start for the Real team as the Norse concentrated on trimming the undead numbers on the LOS - their thrower was caught in two minds as to whether to go for the ball of join his friends in felling corpses… such so that the distraction made him fumble his pickup. The ghouls were quick to pounce, taking the thrower down and quickly surrounding the ball as the deeper ranks committed themselves to go forward in support.

The Bigbrains tried to recover the ball but were no match for the Blodging ghouls who easily secured an early defensive touchdown.

The teams lined up for the second drive. This time the Norse team managed to get it together and make a break down one flank. However, with their numbers starting to migrate to the KO box, much to Mikel González dismay, the ball carrier was left for a free blitz from defensive Mummy, Asier Riesgo… after that the undead masses swarmed again and eventually Gerardo García emerged with the ball to end the second half at 2-0.

In the second half, Mikel González recommended a slow drive forward so he could pick up his much needed casualty, and so they did. The Norse had little to do with few KOs returning, but rather than be ht by the Mummies they opted to just stay out of their reach much to Mikel’s annoyance.

With the mummies doing little the coach called for Real to score in the hopes of getting a 4th during the Norse drive, Haritz Borda Etxezarreta was only too happy to oblige, making his scoring debut.

The valiant Norse lined up once more, hoping to take a consolation TD… but the gods had deemed this not be and Real made a blitz. All the Norse players were covered as the Ghouls charged in to make the score 4-0 with Haritz Borda Etxezarreta claiming a second score… and the game was well and truly over!

The only downside of the game was that Iosu Esnaolaatxega suffered an age related niggling injury, but with tough competition from the Conference North champs, Sylvania Villa, in the next round, he’s going to try and brave it!
