#9 Artemisia – Dead (RIP)
A great game, and another step on the road to final victory!
This was so tense, I was really sitting on the edge of my seat and jumping up and down at times.

I got a wizard and the Assassins brought Headsplitter, who turned out to be a big fake. On some almost 20d I think he knocked 1 elf down in the game.

I got to recieve first, and the rats set up in the middle, leaving me a free run on the sides. I'll jsut score then thought I, and then Pitch Invasion struck! 5 elves down, but only 1 rat! Ag! I fulfilled my first mission of knocking Headsplitter down and fouling him on turn 1 (stun), but moved only 2 players ahead, and the ball far far back with a catcher.

Loren began his blitzes, that I would feel many of through this game, but no break on turn 1. He was also disturbingly ugly, and my catcher was next to a rat ogre, but I went ahead and passed him for a fast 1-0 score anyway. No problems.

Then the rats turn to attack! I first played a loose defense and then joined on his players, trying to create a hole in the lines, and did so when his runner moving to cover the thrower rolled snakeeyes. Yay! It was still hard to get there, and i had to settle for 1d. POW! But the bouncing ball was caught by the St4 Storm Vermin Tjik! Arg! He had some trouble getting away, I planned to use my wizard in teh upcoming turn when one of my players was sent KO and another stunned, and the chance was lost. I put all the pressure I could, and he scored 1-1 with 1 turn left.

No rerolls left and only MA8, but we set up for an attempt at a one-turner. Perfect defense foiled any hope there, and I knocked myself down, getting KO and then Loren hit me for his first cas, that I used the apo on. So no apo left for either team and 1-1 going into second half. Wizard left.

The rats came out in second looking stronger. They feared the wizard and kept a loose cage/screen, never more than 3 players in a possible fireball. After a few turns I was 3 players down, after a nice foul on a lone runner got me sent off for a measly stun! I decided that i needed to break up his loose cage right away and hope for the best with the wizard. We joined the fight, getting rid of one dauntless/horns runner right away. The rats mostly pushed us around, and had to make a tighter cage not to leave any chance of a blitz on the ball. Fireball! all 3 players around the thrower went down, but no armour breaks. 2d blitz sent the ball flying, but next to that damn St4 SV! We closed in on the ball. Tjik hit our catcher out of the way, killing him, and taking the bouncing ball. Hope seemed small! In the next, crucial, turn we managed to get neccessary knock downs and dodge to create 2d with strip ball on Tjik, and the ball went wide once more. We moved it as far away as possible with our star blitzer Prostanthera. the prone Loren got up and chased after him and sent him crashing down, but once more no break! We sent our lineman to it, trying to protect it, but got knocked down again by runner. Ball bounced next to rat ogre and Loren. The last lineman in the last turn. he blitzes Loren 1d, picks up the ball and run away from teh rat ogre to score 2-1! Wheeeeee!

Set up for one turn score failed with perfect defense.

Many thanks for this awesome game! The rats didn't hit hard enough I think, not like the 10 cas vs dwarves last game! That the assassins never found any good opportunity to foul should say something about how tight it was! The ball was very seldom secure in this game, for either team. A real nail-biter!

FC Round 2

Great game again.

Spelledaren is a great coach so I was worried again. Pro elves is the worst race to play against with these rats with their 1/0/3 record too. Combined with a wizard that can throw your gameplan away this showed to be a pretty hard match.

Then the match itself.
My both niggles made it, so still my apo left (didn't do much because he failed on that mng :)).
He scored quite easily. I didn't care that much at that moment and just hoped he wouldn't see FA and PT but it didn't matter that much in my opinion.

I had it quite hard to score back though. Loren wasn't doing his job (every hit has to be a cas vs elves, goddammit! :)) and the wizard was making it hard. He got my thrower down with a 1d, but my str4 SV could catch it. He did well and with some luck (Spelledaren's guys got stunned at the right time, etc.) he could score.

Second half starting with both 11 guys on the field, not that many cas and still a wizard against. But ... 1-1 and receiving, looking good. Had a loose cage, hit two guys off, one got sent off ...
Got to turn 3 and all seemed good. But then ... disconnect.
Apparently my GR got niggled when I was gone so that was a sign it wouldn't go as smooth as it all seemed at that time.
Spelledaren put good pressure on me and I don't know if the disconnect made me nervous, but not the best turn then. He got to use his wizard because my cage wasn't as loose as it had to be. Got 3 guys down and he got to blitz the ballcarrier.
Nice next turn from my guys and my str4 SV catched the ball again. Looking good again with wizard gone and an ok cage. But then it was Spelledaren's turn to get a few good blocks. Got me down and moved the ball away from the battlefield.
Still got him down, but my GR rolled snake eyes on the dodge then so I couldn't get DT next to the ball.
He pushed my SV away with a 1d, picked the ball up in a TZ, dodged away from my Ratogre and scored.

1-2 but he didn't have enough ss to stop the possibility to oneturn.
Perfect Defense stopped that possibility I thought, but should have thought a little longer. Panda_ told me that it was still possible with some good rolls. But well, was such a tense game and didn't see it at that time.

Very good game, Spelledaren. You played it well. Didn't get enough luck to win versus such a good coach.

Good luck in the rest of the tournament!

Ps: The fact that I wrote a match report doesn't mean you don't have to anymore! :)
