A truly epic game!

The first half started with Houston receiving and they pushed the ball upfield quickly, a nasty blow on Nate Jaqua however set him off to the sidelines for this game and next...already down a player and more getting knocked around, Houston pushed in for the quick score to get some reserves on the field. The fans were a bit dismayed at the Sylvania Mummies and their blows...seemed to be a bit too hard...so the fans evened the playing field by getting the ref for the last 6 turns of the half. On the next possession for Sylvania, it seemed to be all Houston - a Mummy, Wight and Zombie were all critically wounded...and all regenerated. However, the numbers were heavily in favor of Houston and Sylvania was forced to make 1d block after 1d block...only a matter of time and a possible 2-0 halftime lead was in sight. Then it all fell apart! A double skulls on the first block by a storm vermin caused an early turnover...Sylvania pressed ahead, however, still a chance to stop them...but skull and skull pow on the blitz results in Houston's only tackle player being badly hurt and the score is tied at 1-1.

Houston was rather depressed going into the second half...a tie game and 3 Houston players were CAS...while all 3 CAS for the Undead had regenerated and were back on the field. The second half did not get much better as the CAS continued to add up and facing 4 blodger ghouls with no tackle was a daunting prospect. The ghouls darted from side to side...and back again...looking for an opening. However, ther Houston defense was solid, but starting to falter...finally, the end of the second half came and the ghouls made their move, pushing up along the sideline in an attempt to score. Houston players made a wall, but then came the decision time...and Blinky Ironhide instead of joining the wall (which may not have held the blodger ghouls from the endzone), Blink went for the 4+ dodge and -2d block (used last team RR) to surf the ball carrier (SI-missing the ghoul) and prevent the score. Another ghoul made an effort, but failed...and there was a chance for a score the other way...2+ pickup, 2+ handoff, 3+ pass and 3+ catch for the winning TD...but the gutter runner could not even pick up the ball.

Both sides exhausted, the game went into OT. Houston lost the coin flip and had to kick...however, they got a blitz and with no RRs on either side, this was a golden opportunity...a few players pushed forward and then snake eyes on the 1 dodge needed by the gutter runner and the blitz was mostly wasted. The ghoul (no sure hands) made the pickup and started to protect the ball...Houston was tired obviously as a gutter runner again failed his dodge to start the turn and Sylvania then crushed the Houston players - 5 blocks = 5 armor breaks...the pressure was put on as best as possible, but Sylvania scored easily. Plenty of time remained and encouraged by the cheering fans, it looked good for Houston. The sure handed thrower failed the pickup and suddenly things looked bleak...with a sidestepping blodger next to Holden, he redemmed himself by making a 3+ dodge and then picking up the ball this time and then it was back to Houston ball! A perfect quick pass, a race up the sidelines - a few blockers...and Blinky was one his way...a 4+ dodge by a tackle ghoul took down Blinky for a moment, but the ghoul had already gfi'd once just to make the block...Blinky was back on his feet...3 quick 2+ rolls (had RR, but did not use) and the game was tied at 2-2.

Overall an epic game where luck was plentiful at times for each side and in the end it evened out just like the score evened out. For example, Houston benefited from nearly every kickoff roll (blitz, get the ref, cheering fans), while Sylvania went 4 for 4 on regen including 2 RIPs. Both sides made great plays at times - and both sides also came up short on some easy plays as well. Overall - a well played truly fun game for both teams.

While Houston advances...neither team won the game and both teams are looking forward to a rematch soon!
