“Dear Vanyar,

After a well deserved rest it was good to get back into action, even if that action was to be against Dwarves for the first game.

With a successful season just gone, we had attracted some unwanted attention from the Bearers of the One Ring, we felt compelled to serve them, and yet we felt that they used their Rings to hinder us. We used our Ring of Fire in retaliation against them, whilst the Dwarf Ring’s power was turned on fellow Elves, the Isolationists… it is a tangled web we weave!

On paper the Dwarves appeared to be no match, our team far outclassed theirs, despite their sorcerers trying to even the odds. In reality however it proved far more difficult… without any real cage breakers we left to fend them off with a sole Guard player aiding our course valiantly. But nevertheless, the staunch fellows sent player after player into the KO box – a mixed blessing indeed.

The Dwarf lords played their role perfectly save for one mistake that alas came to naught as an assisted blitz on the ball carrier failed to put him to ground; they simply knocked our resistance away and scored.

A couple eager players returned from a crowded KO box and everyone remained focussed on the task ahead… a one turn score the likes of which the team had never conjured up before. Adian was the man of the hour, nimbly dodging at the sideline, by a blitzer to level the score!

More players returned from the KO box and we were left with but one man down and certain to score. A feigned move from one flank to the next left the Dwarves a little short footed, but a fumbled pass from rookie thrower, Corrik, left the ball exposed and the Dwarves wasted no time in surrounding it as best they could.

Our blocks failed to shift the Dwarves, but thankfully our agility had not forsaken us, a pickup and handoff to safety lined us up for the score as the Dwarves over committed themselves to the melee. 2 – 1

Now, all we had to do was hold the Dwarves off with 9 men. The Dwarves were forced to make a running break with not quite as much cover as they would like. An assisted Blitz this time put the runner down. The Apothecary was quickly called in as team captain Traki was mortally injured, and the doc did well… the Dwarves moved one Blitzer into score range, so when he was knocked to the floor and all hope lost to tie the game, we did what we do best, and left!

Glory! But we are rusty for sure.

Very close game. The Dorfs creamed us in the blocking, as you may expect, but they did so with only two MB players, and DB13 handled them very well, only exposing his ball carrier when he had no other option.

Where our blocks fell short, our AG, bar the snakes on the pass, served us very well indeed and tipped the balance.

Very good game and a narrowly avoided death of a start player… phew!
