“NWL Season 9:

A long hard fought tactical battle. In the first half, the amazons received and Meg badly hurt a blitzer and was ejected by an overly strict ref. 4 turns would pass and the amazons decided to score instead of stalling out the half. It looked like the right move as fans invaded the pitch (mostly heroine fans) and the dark elves were on their heels...then as time was running out, Fiona dodged away from a mark to score her second TD of the half. Only the kickoff and 1 turn attempt from the dark elves stood between a 2-0 halftime lead...or not! Injury time gave the dark elves 2 turns and set up to stop a one turner was a very poor defense indeed and the dark elves did not waste the opportunity and scored to make it 2-1 at the half.

Kicking off to start the second half and things went south quick. Opening blocks of the half KOed one heroine and then seriously hurt Belle with a vicious chop block. Down two players, it began to look bad...however, the dark elves could not cross midfield and time slowly ticked by. Finally, the elven armor cracked and on one turn 3 elves were KOed (the only elves KOed the entire game). Now a 1 player advantage and a 4-1 advantage in guard players, the elves were desperate - a pass forward, but 2 dodges and the heroines were one him and smacked him to the ground...but a failed dodge meant not enough players could mark the ball...a dodge, pickup in tackle zone, dodge and two gfis and the rookie dark elf blitzer was attempting to break free...but it was an illusion. Fiona just needed 1 dodge (2+ with RR) and she popped him...ball was free and grabbed by an amazon...then she was popped after several dodges by the elves...but Jasmine (catcher) caught the loose ball and the game was over. She raced downfield and the elves could not catch her - on T16 she handed off to Esmeralda to share the glory.
