“Wrestle's Pit Rat Cup - round 1

Wrestle promised high profile and drama in their Pit Rat Cup and that was delivered when the Gothem Geckos took on the Powerheads in the first round. The lizardmen had boosted their ranks with Silibili while the hard hitting chaos dwarves had aquired a wizard to aid their cause.

The main event, apart from the result, would turn out to be the deadly encounter between the power heads key figure Limp Dissel and the immensly popular killing machine Gorhuan. Sadly for the Gecko fans it ended with the death of their hero, ending an era of crowd pleasing fatalities from the frenzied saurus.

In the first half the Powerheads grinded their way to a 1-0 lead in the pouring rain, with the larger saurus defenders having a difficult time stopping the chaos dwarf guards. But it was a tough struggle and it was not until the very end of the half that the Powerheads ball handler Lunatic could break free and rush in his TD.

In the second half the weather cleared up and the Geckos began their offensive drive. The confuzion caused amongst the Powerheads when one of their normally so steadily footed bull centaurs crashed to the ground on a sprint allowed the Geckos to move up a cage and sprint for an early TD. The gods of fate looked determined to stop them though and ball carrying Quetloq stumbled on his feet just as he was about to cross the end zone line. In the same instance one of the skinks got badly wounded and Silibili knocked out. Fortunately Chiquet saved the situation by speedily dodging through the defenders, snapping up the ball and sprinting it in for an equalizer.

With about a quarter of the match remaining it looked possible to push for OT, but two factors had handicapped the Geckos during the match and would continue to do so. Failed crucial dodges by the skinks and the inability to inflict casualties on the opponents.

During the Powerheads last drive the clash between the match winner Limp Dissel, who scored all three casualties (including 2 RIP's) during the match, and the now deceased Gorguan played out, demoralizing the lizardmen in their defensive struggle.

The Powerheads were skilled in blocking off access to the ball carriers and poor blocking and a failed dodge from the Geckos allowed Lunatic to run in the winning TD just seconds before the ref ended the match.

Congratulations to the win, Melmoth. Well played, and although the loss of Gorhuan stings he at least died on a block from another cool player.”
