#13 Karim – Broken Ribs (MNG)
Dear Vanyar,

In a world of magic, illusion and trickery it pays well to look at things from all angles, to discern from the obvious that whish is not, failure to do so can lead to a gross miscalculation and an ultimate undoing… and it is sadly in that vain that I write you this day.

Against eight Men of the North we were to battle, ten strong in number and full of confidence… the Men of the North were renowned for being brittle, but we now know that the standards of brittle vary greatly from the Freeworld to Mordor.

We elected to force our numerical advantage and clear more mankind off the field, but an early charge by them took us be surprise. Nonetheless we regrouped and began to hit them, dazing several. But soon it descended into a brawl by the sideline, our new leader directing our manoeuvres left us positioned badly whilst others continuously forgot about the Men’s accomplished tackle that dove at our feet time and time again.

Soon the Men of the North had the ball and it was only through the agile talents of Idgar that we managed to work the ball free and down field for the score…

Aided by a rock from onlookers we managed to go to the second half with the lead but our mistake in going toe to toe had cost us Karim and one of our men had failed to recover from unconsciousness, we were equal in numbers.

The Men of the North made a determined run to our flank, not fully accounting for our speed, we sacked their ball carrier and with few numbers on either side began to play tag, several times each of us taking down the ball carrier to recover, when finally an opening appeared for us to perhaps secure the ball their perfectly placed catcher intercepted the pass to level the game. But we at least had the gift of time to take the victory.

Our seven men lined up against the immovable eight. We concentrated down a flank with Idgar in possession of the ball. Surprisingly the Men charged us; flooding several men towards Idgar… an opening had appeared. Idgar tossed the ball to Malquin who, assisted had only to push the Men of the North’s tackler behind another of our number to be almost assured of victory, managed only to knock himself to the ground, the ball spilling free.

The Norse ran in and threw a pass leaving Idgar, the only Elf in our party that had done anything right, to then sack the ball carrier. This however was not enough, in the dying seconds he found himself toppled and then a Norse warrior dodged from his marker, moved those extra yards, scooped up the ball and threw a completed pass to the scoreline… we were stunned into silence, the battle was over.

With regret,
Tarius

===
Well, I could say that the interception cost me or the double skull blitz to freedom, or Krytie’s 1d sack, dodge, gfi, pickup, pass catch without RR but in the end it was through poor play that got me relying on those rolls in the first place.

Krytie had cleverly shown up a whole 20mins late, and by that time I was half asleep… honest… and it showed. I kept forgetting about the diving tackle, the No Hands of buzzing and was even seeing 2d chain push surfs where they were none… In short, I didn’t deserve to win, Krytie did. :(

GL in the rest of the tourney mate.
I now look forward to the end of the season and the rebuild phase. :P
