Once in a while Real Sociedead seem to get their game together and when they do it’s a wondrous sight for all but the opposition to behold, and it just so happened that such a game transpired at the weekend as they travelled to Sartosa.

Once again – for the second game running, Star player, Karla Larburu, failed to show for the game leaving the coach questioning whether to drop the Ghoul altogether.
Top Scorer contester, Xabier Prieto Argarate, donned his magical armour for the game however and Sartosa’s Gilin Shieldbreaker was feeling a little bone headed, no doubt from the night before training/drinking session.

Real won the toss and elected to kickoff. After 11 games Victor Casadesus Castano finally succeeded in attaining his third casualty on the LOS, ironically breaking a dorf where Skaven and Elves had formerly stood stoic. This gave Real a huge confidence boost to the trepidation that they had entered the game with. A weak foul and a sending off however failed to add to the dwarves’ injury list or give Real the numerical advantage.

The Dwarves began to shape themselves across the width of pitch and started to tie up zombies whilst their speedier players started to charge the Real half. Real attempted to herd the dwarves up and tie them down as the Ghouls darted from side to side in search of an opening, with Fredrik Olsson and the Mummies being instrumental in moving them around and allowing the Zombies to hit back.

With time quickly ebbing away, Xabier Prieto Argarate made an assisted blitz to break through the dwarven defence, but with a bit of work they could catch him. Thankfully, the dexterous Blitzers of Sartosa found themselves locked in the clutches of Fredrik and a couple zombies so it was left to the longbeards to attempt to stop the touchdown, to which they failed quite miserably as they tried to remove their mummy marker.

Sartosa put their star Runner onto the field despite his groggy disposition, and it was clear that he had been tasked with the job of scoring as he broke to the flank despite Real already charging players into Sartosa’s half. As the Mummies held off Dwarves and both Wights and Ghouls found themselves tied up, it was left to the zombies to hit and run to tie up the ball carrier in an effort to delay the Dwarf until reinforcements could arrive.

Thankfully, the groggy ball carrier had a “senior moment” and forgot where he was and what he was doing, and simply stood there like a wax work. This gave Real the opportunity to pile two more zombies in and really put the pressure to the ball carrier as aid was far away or tied up. All the ball carrier could do was throw an ineffective block and soon he found himself knocked to the floor and kicked – a mortal boot to the cranium saved only by the apothecary. From there it was all over, but to add insult to injury a ghoul pass to a waiting Wight concluded an unbelievable performance from Real!

Very little – if anything – went wrong for me in this game. My blockless Mummies didn’t turnover once and my 1d blocks contrasted immensely with Ebe’s who seemed to turn up skull after skull. His lack of CASing with MB save near the end of the game meant he was man-marked by Block capable zombies a lot of the time leaving him with a few mobile dwarves at best, although those dwarves made the score in the first half difficult.

A well timed bonehead and the usual Skulls meant he was swarmed with zombies and once his St4 MA7 player went down it was boot and boot as both the ball and the player got marked by 3 zombies.

Despite his luck, and mine, Ebe never once complained and gave me a very enjoyable game.

A valuable 3pts, two skills, including my first +ST Mummy, 80K and +FF made this an unbelievable, and rare, game for Real!
