#3 Imanol Plaza Ces – Smashed Knee (NI)
Real Sociedead 1 - 1 Mummywell FC

The joy of a new season was quickly offset by what can only be termed as the MUMMY’S CURSE!

Everyone is well aware of Mummywell’s terrifying reputation, earned by their never ending departure from the top of the Most Brutal table. But unless your players aren’t capable of dodging from towering mummies, or you have your key players outnumbered 2 to 1 (or more) and continually play the ever-present Tut – then few can really appreciate their brutality… after 6 games… Real Sociedead can!

Once again the sweet taste of a new OBBA season was bitted by a terrible draw of Khemri, Orcs and Dwarf… with the worst of the three coming first, and Real went into this knowing that Mummywell would be after blood since Real knocked them out of the cup.

Mummywell took first drive and within moments Real were down by three players and were facing a wall of Mummies, fortified at both front corners by a side stepper… Real cautiously withdrew ensuring their key players couldn’t share the fate of the Zombies or fall beneath the boot.

But despite this, just moments later Real were down to 7, then 6. Thankful most had been knockouts and certain of a good recovery due to stealing coach Gritter’s socks to waft under the noses of the KO’d zombies Real fell back… putting no resistance to the inevitable touchdown.

Mummywell quickly turned around to give chase, the game had suddenly become a matter of survival as Real’s key players were put under pressure and Imanol Plaza Ces was the first of them to leave seriously injured.

Seeing his team mates systematically being demolished, brave team captain, Karla Larburu, burst from the remaining five players and feigned to threaten the ball carrier. Mummywell couldn’t resist the temptation of a non regening Ghoul and went at him full force. It took two gang fouls to shift arguably the most durable Ghoul in the game, and afterwards when Karla crawled to the infirmary with broken fingers he was heard to say, “I’ll be back for game 57!”.

The coach’s enlightened decision to pull his players back, and Karla’s brave efforts meant that Real could still field most of their best players for their drive amidst a full squad. With the shoe on the other foot the Real Mummies ploughed into the Skeletons on the front line, and with the aid of a boot sent all three off the pitch.

Shell shocked, Mummywell moved deep to one flank to try and intercept the ball carrier, to no avail. Real’s man advantage was slowly being reduced as time moved on but the zombies tied up what they could to limit their mobility. Eventually thanks to a block by Victor Casadesus Castano that stunned Tut, Real got into position to equalise late in the second half - all that was required was for Boukary Drame to dodge. Unfortunately, he failed, the ball spilling by the endzone.

Mummywell then made the grave error of leaving the ball untouched, electing only to cover it with one man. Keen to redeem himself and despite the odds against him Boukary Drame blitzed the marker, failing to budge him and making his task much harder, un-phased he dug in, dodging out, picking up the ball by the markers feet, then dodging back out to make a final sprint to the end zone!!!

1 – 1

The Real fans roared as the Mummywell coach sobbed, cursing his decisions in the dying moments.

A huge result for Real, where once again some last minute magic brought the result.

Xxxxxxxx

It feels like I play this fixture every week!

Gritter is without a doubt one of the most devastating players I’ve played, be that with wood elves or khemri… he just happens to be that bit more deadly with the latter.

I played all first half without a DP knowing I’d have little opportunity to use them and hoping he’d get a couple of his sent off, despite the plethora of fouls he didn’t get the number removed that I had hoped (Though I did) and soon it was necessary for me to take stock and survive the first half to mount a real attempt to level the game – leaving with just 4 players!

The second half it was my turn to remove the players and start the booting, giving me control… for a short while. Instead of taking the easy 8 in 9 shot the Wight made a 3+, 4+ (SH) 3+ 2+ and made it despite his RR blown on the -2d attempt to move the marker!

VGG Grit… now go pick on some else for a while! :P
