#13 Field Marshal Gunther von Kluge – Smashed Hip (-MA)
OCCS Stomp - Playoffs Round 3 (finals):

A game that was not to be competitive at all...and yet, we certainly had our chances to steal this one. With only 9 players and no apoth (used on tree) against 13 players including two block/tackle beastmen, it was clear that this match could only end one way.

As the Nurgle Rotters received the ball to start the game, they began to advance and for some reason totally overlooked Douglas MacArthur - who due to some illegal drugs was ST 4 and AG 4 for this game. One dodge and he had a 2d blitz on the beastman with the ball. The rotters attempted to recover - but could not and a handoff to Charles de Gaulle...and it was 1-0 Hobbits! The rotters then received again....and again they neglected MacArthur who smacked down their ballcarrier. Then perhaps the biggest turning point of the game...with no RRs (they had none for the whole game)...the beastmen pick up the ball and toss it deep downfield in the sun...complete. It was already turn 7. Failure there and it would have meant no scoring for rotters in the first half, but with long pass complete - they managed to be successful on several blocks to free their receiver and he scored on T8 to tie the game. In response, we went for the TTM one turner...pickup worked...gfi...handoff...toss...needed 4+ with RR and then simply 2+ dodge and score...but failed the 75% of the landing - and it is 1-1 at halftime. Without a doubt the end of the first half turned the game. A failure by the beastmen passing attack or success by the TTM and it would have been a 1 TD advantage with halflings receiving in the second half. Instead it is tied...but still, receiving the halflings had a chance.
The second half was not to be however. Only 1 for 4 on KO wakeups, we were shorthanded...and then to top that off the rotters get a blitz to start the half...still we had a chance...there was a slim opening...dodge, pickup and race up the sideline...maybe 1 beastman gets to us. But our AG 4 halfling gets snakes on the dodge...and the ball bounces to BUBA the beast. He catches it and then it is slow plodding down the field. He did not score until T16...so one last chance as he needed to pass RS roll...but he did and scored on T16 for the win.

Overall, it was a great effort by the halflings - they fought until the end - never giving up and came within a few rolls of getting the upset...which given the massive disadvantage for this game - it is the best we could hope for. Kudos go out to Vicius and his Nurgle Rotters - they refused to give in after the early mishaps and took the gifts offered by nuffle and took full advantage. This game ends our stomp experience at 8/2/8. A .500 record and runner-up in the playoffs will have to do...for this stomp! Until next time!
