Well, the luck doesn't really tell the story, IMO. You'd think I outplayed Gritter or something, and anyone who happened to watch could tell you that's not the case.

The game took place in a pouring rainstorm that never let up. Normally that sucks almost as much for orcs as for Khemri, but my duo of AG5 blitzers couldn't have been happier.

Orcs kicking off, and the Legion Gets the Ref. The Wabbits made an initial push off the line, and manage to blitz and foul-KO the only Legion DP, but predictably they flubbed the pickup (you know...on account of the rain). That's when the noobing started. I rushed to mark the Wabbits nearest the ball, and I had a clear path to put a tackle zone on it with a blitzer. Mid-turn I made 2 gfi's to try to get there for that TZ on the ball, and faceplanted next to it instead, with 3-4 players still out of position.

The rest of the first drive was a rolling wall of mummies that I was just barely unable to hold back, but I was able to keep up enough pressure that Gritter felt he had to score instead of stalling the half out. I got the ball back and was able to get down to a single 4+ roll (Black Orc in the EZ to catch a pass) to score and even it up, but failed.

As all this was going on, attrition was taking it's toll on the Wabbits. 3 fouls resulted in a KO and 3 DPs being called off for the game, and 2 were in the first half. The casualties favored the Legion overall, and the Wabbits' regen only saved 2 of them.

The second half was a sloppy but effective drive for the Legion, starting out up one wide zone, then isolating the Wabbits' defenders on the line from the ones pursuing wide to create a cutback lane through the middle. The Wabbits freed up a BT mummy to relieve the Legion of the ball, but trusting to superior agility to make up for poor ball security, Samuro snatched the ball from 2 TZs and ran it in for a score to tie it 1-1.

There was no real thought of stalling for OT at that point. Gritter's players were too strong, and with BT I couldn't get enough guys in place to hope to shield the ball from him. I hoped that the defense could come up with a takeaway, and the rain made that even more plausible.

The Wabbit drive started up with a quick snap, and a successful ball pickup (amazing everyone). The center of the field clogged up, as the Legion badgered the Wabbit cage and they in turn tried to punch a hole to freedom and the go-ahead score. It looked like they were going to, too, until the final road-paver, Ramtut, snake-eyed his BT dodge to blitz my black orc last-line-of-defense. That turned the orcs who had been marking the cagers into a crushing force that brought 3 TZs up on the ball-carrier, enabling a 2db even with a pair of Guard mummies involved. A splat and an AG5 scoop'n'scamper and the game was over.

Props to Gritter, who deserved the win more than I probably did. But the dice and the race matchup worked out well for me and I'll be moving on, likely to be smacked back down by JockMcRowdy for my second Smack in a row :)
