The Desolates have had a tough time in the latest matches, being booted early from tournaments and getting shamefully outbashed by norse in the Fumbbl Birthday activities, so going up against lauth81 and his scary win record against me didn't inspire a lot of confidence, despite Desolates being about as primed as they can be. And boy was I close to losing...

In the first half the Desolates got off to a flying start, getting the ST 4 AG 4 monster blitzer Blasttwist out early on a foul (Kuol got ejected in the process), and capturing the ball while sending the Dreckz thrower out badly injured. What looked like a TD run turned into sheer horror when the opponents seemingly out of nowhere (it involved a troll double GFI) captured the ball and got their offensive back on track again. The Desolates threw everything they had on defense, but in the last seconds of the first half a troll blitz cleared the way for a Dreckz blitzer to snap the ball up and tumble across the TD line.

That and lauth81 getting a blitz to remove my TTM attempt, followed by my MA 7 blitzer missing his KO roll and lauth81 getting perfect defense on the 2nd half kick-off got me cursing my usual OCC tournament luck.

As the half looked to fizzle into a centre field struggle an unexpected hero arose to the Desolates defense though. The little Geekwit managed to run through the legs of the orcs, snap up the ball and hand it off to Gokkur, who sprinted down the pitch. A lone Dreckz rookie lineman tried to stop him, but bounced off the blitzer through his momentum. In an equally dramatic move as in the first half Gokkur managed to throw himself over the TD line just as the match clock was about to ring.

For the over time period Urhnat finally woke up from his KO, but the Desolates were still down 9 to 11. To their advantage they had a bit better skilled players and the amazing Geekwit.

OT looked to be drawn down into a centre pitch struggle just like most of the second half. The Dreckz players often looked very close to getting a hold of the ball, having most of their players in the close vicinity while the Desolate players ranks were growing thin and stretched.

As the prospect of clawing my way to a coin toss looked more and more appealing Geekwit struck again. It was the type of move I would never believe myself being able to complete. The goblin snapped up the ball, dodging himself through countless of tackle zones, between the legs of frustrated Dreckz blitzers and lineman, and darted out behind their defensive line. Again a skilless lineman tried to stop the Desolate advance, and again it failed. Geekwit could run in the TD and cement his position as match hero!

Thanks for the match lauth! After complaining about bad luck after the first half I must admit that I was the one that ended up with the luck on my side and I'm not quite sure I deserved pulling off this win.”
