In the first round of the Middenheim Challenge the Dead Knights found themselves facing Fate's Folly in a pouring rainstorm. Kicking to the Elves, the Knights set up a wall of players, trying to keep the elves contained. In response Corralin the Majestic broke open a hole in that line, with Ellian the Grey waiting in the end zone for a pass. Thelarin Windsinger attempted to hand the ball to Janisyn the Lofty, but the rain made everything slippery, especially the ball, and he bobbled the hand off. The knights maneuvered several players to hover over the ball as they brought their "hands" people in. However, before they could grab the ball, it was bounced into Icetouch's hands, only to be knocked loose when he was brought down by Gweriso. The Dead Knights circled the ball, keeping the elves away, but even with all that protection, Icetouch's normally sure hands failed him for four straight pickup attempts. Finally the ball bounced out of the Knights' ring and Thelarin picked it up and attempted to throw it to Ellian (still waiting in the end zone.) However, while he could grab the ball it slipped his grasp as he tried to throw it. Icetouch moved in as time was expiring and was finally able to hang on this time. His last minute grab and escape prevented any hope of Fate's Folly scoring this half.

The second half opened with the clouds breaking and a heat wave settling in. After clearing the line of scrimmage, the receiving Knights set up a cage almost at mid field, with the ghouls driving into Fate's Folly territory. The elves responded by double teaming the ghouls and launching an assault on one flank of the cage. The Knights slowly moved their cage downfield and toward one sideline, all the while with the elves harassing the ghouls. The elves (having tripped up and stunned both ghouls) turned to attack the cage, somewhat collapsing the leading edge and bouncing Corralin within reach of Ventrix, the ball carrier. The zombie Sargon was having none of that, and shoved Corralin into the fans as the Knights retrenched their cage, slightly back of their farthest progress. As the elves tried (and failed) to shove the mummy Amun-Sul into the fans, the Knights broke open the elven line towards the back of the cage. Ventrix rushed out, and tried to hand the ball to the ghoul Grennel who was finally back on his feet, but still bobbled the ball. Despite their best efforts, several players of Fate's Folly had been KO'd throughout the melee, leaving them with little chance of recovering the ball. The knights formed another cage on the ball and slowly marched it in as time expired leaving the 5 elves remaining on the field to lie exhausted on the turf.

Fate's Folly played an excellent match with poor luck dogging both teams until the half, when things turned around for the Knights, but not for the elves. Several comments were made about the elves needing to work on their footwork whilst sprinting, as a surprisingly high number of them were brought down by tripping over their own feet.
