It was a bright, sunny day at Itzamná's Arena, and the usually dusty smell of the dead god's followers was boosted a bit beyond the pale. In spite of this, the Dengue Bite Dandys accepted their challenge, and the game was on!

Though at first it didn't appears so, before long it became clear that the dead ones' god was not completely gone... or at least that fortune favored them that day. They won the toss and elected to receive, and after an unruly fan injured the Dandys' most dextrous Skink, Reezaa, the Lizards' front line began to crumble. Starting with a mighty blow from Tutul Xiu to The Dandy himself and including a badly hurt Saurus, Gramn, it looked like the Blood of Itzamná was out to force a win.

The resulting wrestling match in the center of the pitch left a clear patch for the Wight Cu Ix, who paused on the goal line to assess whether delaying would be wise. He was rapidly surrounded by a Skink swarm, and had to blitz his way out, crossing the goal line to make it 1-0.

There was still plenty of time for the Dandys to score, though, and they lined up heavily favoring one side of the pitch. The Dandy appeared ready to charge Yaxun Balam, but to the Mummy's surprise he simply paused and reared up, waiting for a Saurus to push the dead warrior into his claws. Meanwhile, the berserker Saurus Dzzonny shoved Weapon Bearer into the crowd, and he was lucky to make it out still animate. Skink Jing Li-Ding scuttled forward to get the ball, and the scrum was on!

The Undead formed a long, bolstered wall to stop the Lizard surge, and at first it held, but soon crumbled before the might of the Saurii, many of whom had trained at hitting hard and fast. Tutul Xiu and Cu Ix laid about them with fury, though, and it looked like the Lizard line would fall... but the Undead had over-committed, and Jing Li-Ding ran around the struggling pack to within a few steps of the end zone!

Tutul Xiu and Kan Boar pushed their long-dead limbs to the limit in an effort to reach the quick-footed Skink, and for a moment it seemed they had succeeded: The Dandy was pushed aside, and Kan Boar watched Jing Li-Ding warily, hoping to trip the little lizard up. The Saurus Liil Azzhool took advantage of the Wight's over-focus, though, and knocked the dead one away. The path was clear for Jing Li-Ding, and the Skink's legs churned, pushing as hard as it could... but its little muscles gave out just before it crossed the goal line, and the ball squirted free and into the crowd just as the whistle blew. The undead lead was preserved by barest fortune!

As the second half started with Blood of Itzamná kicking it looked like the Lizards had a good chance to tie it up. As the heat of the day intensified, the Lizards' coach took a chance and sent Saurus Tschikko after the ball! His claws were not up to the task, though, and the Undead moved to take advantage even as the Lizards surrounded the ball.

Eve as Blood of Itzamná were wearing down the Lizards (and sending Skink Uo-Ua-Ui to the box with a lasting injury) Skink Ratza Matza scooped up the ball and made a break for it past Tutul Xiu. A stray bandage caught on the Skink's leg, though, and he fell to the ground. The Undead were quick to capitalize, and sent in their best runner, Kan Boar of the sure hands. The heat must have made his bones weak, though, as the Wight could not pick up the ball! The Skink, Hacka, danced a merry jig around the dead before moving in to knock Tent Builder away from the ball, but when he tried to continue the dance to pick it up, he was tripped by Kan Boar and hurt himself on the pitch!

Ratza Matza tried to get the ball himself a moment later (when Kan Boar bobbled the ball a second time) but could not hold on to it. The Undead coach snarled at the fumbling Wight and with a shout of frustration sent in Weapon Bearer to pick it up... and amazingly, the Zombie succeeded where Kan Boar could not! With several Lizards off the pitch due to injuries the Zombie took the ball the rest of the way in for a touchdown.

The last few moments of the game were naught but a shoving match, and in the end the luck of the dead held, and they won 2-0.

=====
Thanks to Smuk for a very fun game. His fun chatter and good spirits even in the face of undead making mince of his lizards (and some very rough ball handling rolls )were quite inspiring. I look forward to playing him any time!
