Vaevictis Asmadi lose to weaker Humans! For shame...
Illegal Drugs-Iron Man Blitzer Desperado closed the game for Dakkon12, but it was a great string at the end of the first half that decided the game. I'll see if I have time to write a proper report later.
EDIT for longer report: Dagnabbit, I lost with a 42 point TS advantage! Clearly, I suck. :-( The Count played for Asmadi and Illegal Drugs-Iron Man made an unstoppable ST5 blodge-tackler for Dakkon as well.
First half went according to plan all the way until T8: Asmadi got to receive and had decided to play as the elfy team, as we had more blodge and AG+ and they had more MB. So our plan was to score in T5 or T6 to give us a shot to steal 2-0 before half-time. It was raining the entire match, further increasing the chances that Dakkon's AG3 players would mess something up on their drive. Dakkon's defense was tighter than expected, but we scored in T6 and were so far even winning the CAS. It was all good.
Sure enough, they did mess up: in their T7 a Catcher failed to catch the ball. Asmadi had our AG4 blodge Thrower in range to pick up, and could score with this string: 2+ 2d-POW 2d-push 2+(RR) 4+(RR) 4+(RR) 4+(RR) 2+. We failed on the last 4+, leaving Dakkon another chance to score with this string: 2d-push 2d-push 5+(RR) 3+ 4+(RR) 2+ 2+. He didn't get a push on the first block however, and instead made an additional 3+ 2+ to compensate. It was a long-shot and he made it. 1-1 at half-time. (This decided the game in the end. I would play the same situation the same way again, it was a chance for me to close the game.)
Second half started with Asmadi applying heavy pressure, marking every opposing player. Dakkon had to resort to a hand-off to the ST5 blodge Blitzer Desperado, which unfortunately for us worked. Asmadi could only get 1d on him with tackle after that hand-off, which didn't bring him down (perhaps i should have RR that block as it turned out to be my last chance, but that wasn't obvious at the time).
Desperado blitzed himself free and after that his team-mates only had to put up the weakest of screens to protect him, because Asmadi would need so many players to bring him down. We seemed to fail a lot in second half and never made it, so he walked in the winning 2-1 in T16. Asmadi then had a failed OTS-attempt.
I think my second half defense was decent, but once Desperado got the ball it became very tough. Maybe I could have kept the Count back as a sweeper to be able to get 2d, but he was doing good work where he was and lacking tackle that would have been dicey anyway. Asmadi really needs a strip baller.
GG Dakkon12, GL in the tourney and see you around.”
