“Scheduled Smack Final:

A fun competitive game that went the distance...and then some as we played a full 24 turns before finally we came out on top...a few highlights that I recall:

First half:
The wood elves got a BH early on a CD blocker, but apoth was used right away - no more CAS suffered until OT, this proved to be the right call. We had 2 2d blitzs with stripball - but the times getting pushes and knocking the ball free. We failed the pickup however, and the ball was in 2 tacklezones...almost safe...but no! The wood elf catcher dodge past the tacklers, grabbed the ball and sprinted to the endzone (12% play). Out of range, we managed a push to get a blocker to within 6 spaces, failed 1 gfi on the blitz to use the RR, and then failed the block. Catcher dodged away and it was 0-1 at the half.

Second half:
The wood elves played off - trying to get us to score early - but to no avail as our sure handed hobgoblin stood between 4 guards and marched down the field. On turn 16, the wood elves tried the leaping -2d blitz, but failed (roughly 30% play). We scored, but first bashed and surfed (this was key - a BH on his dodge-guard). 1-1 at the end of regulation.

Overtime:
The wood elves got the coin flip, we used our kicker to try to put the ball in the corner...but those elves were too fast - they made the rolls they needed to and broke through our line - pushing with gfis deep towards the endzone. The last of gfis failed though and they used a RR and did not gfi again. This proved critical - as 1 more gfi indeed would have forced us into desperate play to stop them. Truly it was poor defense our our part - our secondary was playing a bit too close - and a loss here would have been deserved for our mistake. However, with the lineman slightly out of position, our stripballer managed to do a dodge, 2 gfis for 1d blitz (61% play) - the ball was loose and at this point the wood elves were out of RRs, they failed a shot at scoring (better than 60% chance of scoring) due to lack of RR and failing the first 2+ roll. We took the ball and ran the length of the field...only to fail to score - we rolled snakes for the gfi on the goal line. The wood elves went the other way, we got the ball...they knocked us down and go the ball...we knocked them down...finally with 2 turns left we grabbed the bouncing ball and raced in for the TD.
