“Smack - Round 1:

An epic game with lots of twists and turns. First half, the dwarves started off well by removing 2 players (we used apoth on blocker) and the dwarves were slowly grinding forward, but then we took out 3 players in 2 turns (2 via the foul) - it was down to 8 v 8 as we were caught for the last foul...but both troll slayers were off the field and the dwarves retreated. A failed gfi opened the door and some good blocking sent the ball loose and Anika (AG 3 bull) picked it up and raced in for the TD.

The second half, we feinted one way - then sprinted the other...Aidan (other AG 3 bull) was badly hurt and Anika was marked, but a series of chainpushes allowed us to push Anika free and she raced to the endzone...already thinking of the 2-0 lead and victory celebration...she tripped...snaked the gfi as she crossed into the endzone...ball was tossed right to dwarf AG 4 runner. With 1 bull out and the other nursing her wounded pride, we pressured the dwarves, but could not get the ball back. We had a slim chance at a 2 turn score to win it, but it was not worth a RR...since it was overtime!

In overtime, we were down by 3 players and really, game was all dwarves at this point - if they won the coin toss, game was theirs...as it was they got a perfect defense, but a touchback...Anika had the ball and we thought we could break through, but 2 bad turns ate 2 RRs and left us vulnerable...ball was popped free - and the dwarves were swarming...again looked like the dwarves would win it...but Anika got the 3+ dodge, 3+ pickup...racing away (3 gfi)...survived a 1d blitz...then when we failed our block to push her free, and spent our RR, she dodged with no RR, 3 more gfi...and as time expired fought off 1 last dwarf blitz and raced in for the score.

Overall, it was a great game - both scores in regulation were defensive scores after snakes on gfis.
