Third-round game in FUMBBL Cup X and the second actual game for both teams. This looked like a tough matchup for the chaos, with the khemri having two great tomb guardians (block, BT, guard, MB, PO), two great Thro-Ras (one with AG 4, one with AG 3) and good support players including two DPs. Especially with a bribe and two babes on hand, the khemri team could both be expected to survive a lot of punishment and deal plenty of its own. Not to mention that they could handle the ball as well as anyone, unless something should happen to the star Thro-Ras...

Chuck Versus Blood Bowl won the toss for the second game in a row and elected to receive. The LOS skeletons went down easily but all stayed on the pitch. However, the blitz got one tomb guardian down, and piling on would have scored a kill, had it not been for regeneration. The khemri team responded by fouling the offending chaos warrior (a stun with no DP) and blitzing the chaos dirty player without breaking armor. This only angered the chaos DP, who removed the prone tomb guardian from the pitch (KO). With a dirty player skeleton also badly hurt (regened), Chuck was now in complete control with 11 players against 8 on turn 2.

The rest of the half saw more khemri players being carted off the pitch, but regen was working its magic (another killed tomb guardian regenerated) and only one DP was badly hurt permanently. Or at least that was the case until turn 7, when diminishing khemri numbers meant that Elvis, the AG 4 legend Thro-Ra was left unsupported. Stephen blitzed Elvis, causing a KO on the original attempt but rerolling it with piling on to a stun (2 babes meant that KOs were unlikely to stay out). This left Elvis open to a gangfoul, and the chaos DP did his job and then some: the result was an ejection and an unregenerated -ST on the legend, a trade that Chuck Versus Blood Bowl was more than happy to take!

After Ellie walked in the 1-0 TD at turn 8, the khemri got their KOs back and were back at full strength. Quite boldly, they decided to try a one-turn TD, which was theoretically possible, but in practice quite unlikely to succeed, even with an AG 3 Thro-Ra. The khemri were not exactly rewarded for their boldness, as a block by the ST 4 skeleton resulted in triple both downs, and a killed skeleton (no regen)!

The second half started with a perfect defense for Chuck Versus Blood Bowl and a KO for the khemri, allowing them to get up in numbers for the first time in the game. However, the khemri ballcarrier was left open after turn 2, allowing Jill to get a shot at the ball but failing to get it loose with 4 dice. Nevertheless, the pressure was on now and the khemri couldn't construct a proper new cage. This allowed Stephen to hit the ball carrier and pop the ball loose, which scattered free of any tackle zones. Anna scooped up the ball and ran far downfield, out of reach of any khemri player.

At this point, I committed my apparently required one idiotic wizard-related gaff per game, completely forgetting that the khemri wizard could just bolt down the ball carrier. This they did, stunning Anna and popping the ball free near the khemri end zone with no players nearby from either team. The next turns saw the khemri players backtracking madly and me sending some more players to support the stunned Anna. Luckily, khemri had ran out of rerolls and couldn't pick up the ball with their Blitz-Ra on turn 5. This left an easy task for Anna to pick up the ball and run in the second chaos TD of the game.

Chaos started the last drive with only 9 players and were soon down to only 7. I decided to just protect my key players for the rest of the tournament and didn't contest the ball at all. Well, not until turn 7, when Devon got a shot at the ball carrier, took him down, picked up the ball in 2 TZs and dodged away. This was enough to stop the khemri TD and ensure the game ended 2-0.

In reflection, I was very happy to win the casualty war (total casualties were 7-3) and escape without any permanent damage. I was able to dominate the first half and score in the second despite making a huge blunder with the wizard. I need to put a post-it note with the word WIZARD in capital letters on my display for the next game so I don't forget about it again.

Thanks for the fun game DonnyRainboe! Good luck with your team and hope your rib heals well. This was a fun game in front of a very large crowd of almost 80 spectators at the peak.
