FUMBBL Minors 1300TW III-3 Round 2:

A very tough match-up on paper for a mostly-block-less and non-tackle Nurgle team... Especially in the pouring rain all game lone. I felt we made the most of it, playing fairly well overall, forcing our opponent into some tough rolls when it seemed like easy ones would be needed. We were a bit fortunate with our pow-rolling, on our opening drive we had a play with 2 key pows which allowed us to break through and set ourselves up for an early 1-0 lead.

The luck wasn't with us all game long, however, as I cannot remember the amazonian women failing a dodge, foul appearance roll, or 1 BD hit all game.

At the end of the first half, with the Amazon team pressing to score and equalize before the half, we made some impressive dodges/gfis to put them in a very tough position. We decided not to use the wizard as it seemed like using it vs. not using it wouldn't help/hurt much. The ball was on the ground with a Nurgle Warrior next to it, with the ladies being forced to attempt a dodge to get a 1 BD (I think?). Anyways, they managed to push the warrior out of the way and scoop/score in the rain to equalize. In hindsight, using the wizard may have made this slightly more difficult, but not too much more difficult.

We ended up using the wizard fairly early on into the 2nd half. It was a situation where we could fireball 4 amazon players, 3 of whom were key players... Blodge/Stand Firm were killing us all game, we took the opportunity hoping to piled up a bit of attrition on our side, we did take out one Amazon player but it was not a significant one and ended up resulting in a waste of a wizard. It was a big risk on our part since it was still quite early on and we probably should have held onto the wizard until the end to try and prevent a score; however, at the time, we felt that if we had a fortunate wizard zap, we could likely apply serious pressure on our opponent and possibly force a turnover.

I think the difficulty in knocking down blodge players and in tactically manoeuvring blodge/stand firm players directly led to our decision to prematurely apply the wizard.

In the end, I felt it was an excellently coached game on both sides. Greggster played an extremely cautious game that was very well calculated and consistently managed risk effectively. There were very few, if any, meaningless dice rolls. Conversely, it felt like we constantly needed to roll moderately tough dice just to keep pace / apply defensive pressure.
