Warpstone Open: Qualifier Round 1

We high-balled the minimum TW to be qualified to enter the WO by over 200 TV, and in doing so, drew a well established UNDEAD team, and gave them a wizard for the match. Could have been worse; it could have been dwarves.

Coming into the match we knew it would most likely be a loss, as they're twin wights came equipped with Tackle and Mighty Blow, and they used these skills very effectively; Piling On was hardly used. We employed our best French defense for the first half (running away), which allowed us to still field 11 players for the second half, which was quite the fight. We managed to score, playing for Overtime, and when the coin came down for OT, we had no choice but to go back on the defense. After their first turn we were down to 8 players on the pitch, and the Undead made short work of us there after.

What did this match come down to? Amazing positioning on the part of the Undead, favorable kick off rolls when they were not needed, a wizard that fizzled out, and Mighty Blow wrecking havoc on AV7.

Match Highlights:
The 1d blitz (50% chance of knocking down the ghoul holding the ball), a dodge, a 4+ pick-up, another dodge, a GFI, and a hand-off, rerolled for the catch. This was what was needed just to put us into position to have a chance to tie the match. This Undead team was simply brutal.

Prez <coughs> ahem and points at his Undead team :)

It was an unusual first half, your tactic of running away worked reasonably well, and I managed to get some players off. In the second have you stood your ground this time and the cas trailed off!!

I squandered my WIZ, BC went down but my ghoul was prevented from running and picking up the ball. The scrap that developed there after was swinging both ways. When I eventually nailed the BC a second time and managed to pick the ball up and was isolated and had few places to run to! Standing next to the mummy with Guard was my best option,, but you still nailed him. Luckily TZ still covered the ball. But you managed to pull off a daring move and scored.

Taking us to OT, those early injuries in OT were crucial :D the rest history
