“Winless streak broken at three games! Opponent won the coin toss, elected to kick. I set up the ball in a loose cage; opponent opted to use both Syreens to Gaze one cage support and blitz the other with his Vampire Lord, to get the latter onto the carrier. This worked, but left him overcommitted when I blitzed the Vampire Lord off the ball and redirected the play. I zigged and zagged a couple times, finally getting the ball into a pocket of sorts, but a leaping Syreen was able to pop it free, twice. We won the scrum and got the ball back both times, finally using Sylph Apsara to carry it down to the endzone, where we successfully camped until turn 8. In the second half, we got rocked by a pitch invasion, and the opponent used the opportunity to go full-contact. A massive scrum ensued, which was decided when Gnome Amethyst skulled out at the end of turn 3, opening a hole for the Vampire Lord to escape. We tried chasing him down, but some lucky dodging and a well-placed Leaping Hypnogaze carried the drive and they scored on turn 6, leaving us 3 turns to equalize. We went northward, and managed to get good removal; the game was decided when the Vampire Lord tried one too many 2+ rolls to blitz my carrier, and failed a GFI. 2-1 win, record 10-3-4.”
