#10 Ricky Stanzi – Dead (RIP)
Hochland Reporter and hooligan Eric Barman analyze the game:
Hochland:
It's Flashfurt second overall loss. What can be learned from the two losses?

Eric:
Both in the game against the Griffins and the Bandits the loss didn't appear from a position of weakness but from one of strength.
Basically an accumulation of bad moments.

Hochland:
But isn't it kinda noteworthy that these both bad moments happen to be precisely against one of the leagues most famed newcoming coaches and the other in the playoff game, the first serious test of strength?

Eric:
Not really, I mean... We had closer games this season, the difference is that a large number of teams can't make good use of opportunity when it presents itself.
We went into season pretty much expecting to closely escape elimination. Although that mood changed later, among the fans there was a lot of skepticism whether Flashfurt would really make it. Although the so called 'experts' all said so.

Hochland:
So.. The bandits kind of excell at tasks of retreveal and quickly changing their mode of play. Do you think that was hard to overcome for Flashfurt?

Eric:
Not really. On the contrary. It plays into the strength of the team and what you say was pretty much a game of complete dominance. If anything we see a level of fatigue setting in up to the point that the players are getting bored and just let it happen.
An uncommitted catch like the one by Anthony that led to the loss of the game I don't think I have ever seen by him before.
It was basically a complete routine action, the flank wide open, the whole setup is very close to walking it home. The ball getting free wouldn't be a problem here either if it wouldnt bounce back with Garoppolo failing to catch despite his best effort. We really see how he goes out of himself to make up for the mistake but it's no good with the pressure excerted by Barber and Sapp.

Hochland:
Isn't there always the question in games like that whether this couldn't have been decided sooner? I mean the whole thing went down in overtime. It should have been avoidable to get there shouldn't it?

Eric:
Yes, I mean sure. The question is really if you can reprimand it when a team is 2:1 in the lead that the other team cannot score anymore by any natural means.

Hochland:
Although here again playing into the strength of the Bandits making stuff like that happen.

Eric:
Yeah and you can see them start a little early before the the ref blows the whistle.. which is really huge there. But it is also again this uncommittedness i have been speaking about earlier. Flashfurt basically just lets it happen as if they don't even really care if they score or not.
The coach would have had at this point the choice to field players like Evans, Thomas and Baptiste on the line and there wouldn't be a chance of winning. Yet he can't bothered to secure the certain win at this moment. It's this type of arrogance. This is the problem. Not as it is communicated in the media like the players are the problem. It is the coach. That guy is an idiot. The squad is excellent.

Hochland:
Well, we see Flashfurt doing stuff like that throughout the season and get away with it.

Eric:
Yes, it is true. And we see Flashfurt at the end of the season as the team with the highest percentage, the most wins and the best tie breaker in the entire League. If this was a regular season game, the whole thing wouldn't be more than an afterthought. With Bandits going broke for a tie, nobody cares about. That team barely even qualified for playoffs. Flashfurt could've lost 3 consecutive times to them and still walked out with more points and a higher winepercentage.

Hochland:
Yes, but it wasn't a season game.

Eric:
Yes, in this format outcomes of single games weight more than everything that is being done and archieved throughout the 14 previous games.

Hochland:
But isn't that something to be happy about? We should see a real standoff in those final games.

Eric:
I'd usually tend to agree but as I said, it doesn't work with bored and uncommitted coaches like Wreckage.
I think we really need a change there. Otherwise it's all good.

Hochland:
But I mean, you put like Bandits just won due to some dumb luck basically. Didn't they have some great situations earlier in the game?
For instance with Sapp retrieving the ball?
If things would go a little better here, the Bandits score at the end of the half and are right back in the game.

Eric:
Well, not really. That probably would have helped the Universe. I mean, they might have actually tried to make an effort after that. We saw that the Bandits had problems to play a simple offense earlier on. Their one strength was to switch gears after a dropped ball. Something that you most of the time won't see by Flashfurt and something they easily could make up for when it happens early in the game. The risk being only that it happens late in the game.

Hochland:
But shouldn't from that perspective Universe be more concerned about deciding the game early?

Eric:
I don't think you can really reprimand that behavior of the players. It's a very common tactic and it would seem a little insane to open the gates so to speak for an offensively oriented team. In a playoff game nontheless instead of taking the small but unavoidable chance of a late turnabout.
Yet we see this all work out and with Wreckage influencing the draft first to not employ any new draftees at the beginning of the season and then the completely uncommitted frontline at the end of the second half we see clearly who is to blame for this all.

Hochland:
Thanks for the interview.
This was Eric Barmann of the Flashfurt Ultras, a dedictated Flashfurt fan that does not only throw rocks at the opponent.
Be warned Flashfurt and hope we see you in better spirits in the next season.
