CIBBL - Y5, Autumn - Bronze Division: game 5:

Modryn's Midnight Meddlers faced the powerful Doom Glade Demons in their fifth game this autumn. Both Morlanna and Hauclir were unavailable this game, which caused Timaris Stormwing a serious headache before the game had even begun. After some consideration, the nervous wood elf coach decided to call upon the service of Jordell Freshbreeze, hoping his grace and style would boost the Meddlers' performance. Eldril Sidewinder was called upon as well, despite his injuries. Obviously, a powerful wizard was also recruited, together with his twin brother who serves as a wandering apothecary. To top it all off, two bloodweiser babes were present as well, hopefully boosting the wood elves' endurance. A mountain of inducements to help get the Meddlers to another victory.

The Meddlers received in the first half and managed to push through the Demons' lines, scoring with a pass in turn 3. Then the Demons started their running game, while punishing wood elves whereever they could. His mood turning more sour by the second, Timaris decided to call upon the hired wizard. "Launch that fireball now", he shouted, hoping to turn the tide. Several dark elves were flattened by the blast, including the ball carrier. "Now, Jordell!", Timaris hissed, urging the star to move in and evacuate the ball. The star player gracefully danced between the dark elf bodies, most of them still wondering what had just hit them. He picked up to ball and prepared to smoothly launch it, but then the impossible happened! Somehow Jordell fumbbled the ball and let it slip from his hands. "Another badly spent arrow", Timaris sighed. Even though Nimrodel would knock the ball loose one more time, Aetharon - finding inspiration in Jordell's example - also let the ball slip through his hands. Despite two serious efforts, the equalizer couldn't be prevented: 1-1 at halftime.

The second half started with Nuramon Darkstar knocking himself out of the game with a quadrupple skull. "Isha be praised", Timaris exclaimed, "this is a present of the gods!". This time Jordell didn't disappoint though. Leaving the dumbstruck dark elves behind him, the wood elf star dodged through and picked up the ball. Next turn he leaped out of the encirclement and handed over the ball to Mereia who scored her second touchdown of the evening: 2-1 with still 7 turns to go.

The Meddlers did everything they could to stop the final rush of the Demons. And they almost succeeded. But eventually it wasn't enough, despite several hits on the ball carrier. 2-2 and another draw for the Meddlers, although victory was definitely within reach.
