Well, my unfeasibly unfair run of good luck continues. Here was a game I shouldn't really have won - and wasn't expecting to win - but which ended up being handed to me on a plate thanks to fallingdownjoe suffering possibly the worst half-game of luck I've seen in a very long time - and I thought my last game was one-sided!

Okay, so both teams here are all about the passing game. As you probably know, She's a Sensation are something of a factory for churning out passing legends, and thanks to the untimely death of my most recent, I'm busy training up the next in line. On the other side of the ball is Elf Marx, the greatest high elf passer of them all who is slowly but surely overtaking one Sensation after another on his way to the top of the all-time list. So clearly this was going to be one of those games where the ball spent most of its time in the air...

And sure enough, that's how it began, with the wood elves getting off the mark with a nice quick two-turn, two-pass score.

On defence my strategy involved running all my catchers downfield as far as possible, to try and put Elf Marx in a tackle zone or two if nothing else. And if that failed, at least it kept them far away from the one deadly threat in the high elf ranks, Elrond Engels VII and his tackle/MB combo.

But I needn't have worried, as the god of dice was in no mood to show fallingdownjoe any favours. None at all. In the following six turns, the high elves gave away three more TDs to the wood elves, and all pretty much followed the same pattern. Elf Marx failed a 2+ pass twice, a 3+ pass twice, and then another 3+ pass twice, and one each occasion, my own thrower, Springforward Fallback, was able to reach the ball, lob a quick or short pass to a catcher who then ran in the score.

And as if that wasn't enough, fallingdownjoe was also denied the satisfaction of being able to dodge, or even foul, without failing.

And then the final insult came on turn 8, when Elf Marx again double failed a 2+ pass. Seriously, the chances of a fully-tooled-up AG5 thrower - who also happens to currently be the top active passer on the entire site - failing that many passes in a single half are so small they're almost non-existent.

The second half began in pretty much the same way for fallingdownjoe, except that at least now it was his dodges that were failing, not his passes. Despite this, and thanks to a timely blitz on their second drive, the high elves pulled back two scores in four turns. But it was too little too late, and no amount of sensible dice could make up for the disaster that was the first half. And with both teams now all but unstoppable on offence, we finished out the game with two more scores for the wood elves and one more for the high elves.

And here's an interesting fact...

Despite suffering the worst half-game of his career, Elf Marx still managed to pick up more passing yards than Springforward. That's how good he is! So while Springforward managed a very respectable 9 for 59, Elf Marx came away with an astonishing 6 for 67. Without that terrible start, he could so easily have been way over 100 yards for the game.

Two other points of interest: this was the first time I've ever used the zap spell. I played it early against Engels VII and the subsequent block against the toad put him in the BH box - the perfect result for me.

Also, I said in my last match report that I'd attempted 35 go-for-its, which I thought might well be a personal record. This time out I made 36!

And finally, while my luck was still strong, I managed to pick up safe throw for Springforward, a double on a lineman and a +ST on the new blitzer... and buy two new linemen as well.

Times are good. I'm clearly heading for a fall.
