“Well, there's good news and there's bad news...

The good news is that it was a great game, and I won it. The bad news is that the very first thing that happened on my first offensive drive was that my new thrower was hit by a rock and killed. Then the apo failed and he was killed again. For a team that's all about the pass, that's really not a great start.

So in stepped the AG5 catcher and took over the passing duties - after all, I have my averages to keep up! And what a great job he did. He wasn't quite as showy as the average thrower, generally sticking with long pass at the most (and even the all-but-pointless quick pass when the sun was out) but he never fumbled, never threw an inaccurate pass, and was never intercepted. And, thanks to a lack of funds for a new thrower, he looks likely to be doing the same again next time out.

Anyway, as for the rest of the game, it was a mad frenzy of throwing, catching and scoring from both teams, neither of whom wanted the other to get any sort of advantage. Except for one ever so slightly slower drive, there was a score every two turns. There were also three blitzes. And sunshine.

And so much blocking as well. Wow, can those high elves hit. And according to the stats, so can the wood elves, although obviously I don't remember that bit! But 60 out of 90 successful blocks and no fails. That's tough for elves. Fortunately though, both sets of armour were up to the task. I came off a little worse, but that's not surprising, seeing as how I'm wuss elves, but even so, there was barely a scratch to show for all that hitting. Thankfully. Just the dead rock magnet.

In the end, the whole game really came down to a single play and that was when I made the interception that gave me the ball within easy reach of the high elf endzone, allowing me to go into the break at 3-2 up instead of 3-2 down.

And I suppose the two late blitzes I was granted helped quite a bit as well.

So all in all, a good result, though I would have given almost anything for it to have been a different player who was rocked to death - anyone but the tree.

tussock was a tough opponent, and it was a real pleasure to play against someone else who throws the ball as much as I do. I hope we get to face each other again soon.”
