Blitz 'Dem - GDR Edition #1; Issue #2

'Blitz 'Dem', the preeminent periodical for all things Blood Bowl, having been published by diligent grotz since 1964 IC, brings you the key facts from the opening Gameweek of the inaugural season of the Greenskins Draft Rumble.

= GAMEWEEK 2 ROUND-UP =
By week two, we have started to see the challengers and strugglers emerge from the mass of contenders.

= STAR PLAYER POINTS =
There were five players who recorded more than 5 SPP in this round:

7 SPP - Khar Deathslash (Zaragoz Goatz); Valeria Wargo (Carcasonne Snarlfangs)
6 SPP - ★ Journey Ruth ★ (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics); Naruba Lagrumph (Sartosa Kraken); 'Moose' Groinstomp (Drakwald 'Ardboyz)

= CASUALTIES =
Shockingly, no player caused more than one casualty this week. The editorial team hope this oversight will be rectified next time around.

= BLOCKS =
Only 4 players delivered 11+ blocks in their games - which suggests that the responsibility for squishing noses and popping eyeballs is being spread around the teams:

12 blocks - ★ Mornrog Groinchewa ★ (World's Edge Kommandoz); 'Chief' Flurg Mosshorn (Reikland Steel Clawz)
11 blocks - Kroll Stonecrusha (Sylvania Gloomfangz); Borkül Kass' Trogn (Talabec Tyrants)

= TOUCHDOWNS =
Only one player managed to score more than once this week:

2 touchdowns - ★ Journey Ruth ★ (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)
1 touchdown - 9 players

= FOULS =
We are starting to see the real heels of the league emerge now as three new players from three new franchises top the table:

4 fouls - Skabzit Mudsplitta (Nordland Skullsmasherz)
3 fouls - Ougdula The Mauler (Zaragoz Goats); Skarr Fleshcleava (Carcasonne Snarlfangs)

= RUSHING YARDS =
Five players ate up the turf with 20+ yard carries, with just one player from last week appearing again - but an incredibly tight group in the top three:

31 yards - Kharr Deathslash (Zaragoz Goatz)
30 yards - ★ Baggit Wartsnout ★ (Sartosa Kraken)
29 yards - ★ Journey Ruth ★ (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)
22 yards - Indestructible (Iron Crag Clawz)
21 yards - Zogg' Kram' Bitûm (Talabec Tyrants)

= PASSING YARDS =
A trend is appearing that shows the only teams using passing skills are throwing either bombs or goblins!

5 yards - ZumVa Kuloz (Zaragoz Goatz)
4 yards - Grunk Gorefang (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)

= AWARD WINNERS =
Each Gameweek, there will be awards for some notable players and coaches. This week, there could have been more than one winner in each category:

MVP
★ Journey Ruth ★ (Karak Azgaraz Fanatics)
Two touchdowns, six SPP, two blocks, and 29 rushing yards has shown himself to be quite a player and an offensive threat. Close runner-up for the defence must be ★ Mornrog Groinchewa ★ (World's Edge Kommandoz) who obeyed his coach throughout the game, throwing 12 blocks to help his team keep a clean sheet.

Golden Clipboard
Nobla (Carcasonne Snarlfangs)
Coach Nobla edged out his bitter rivals in an early 'derby' between the Snarlfangs as the Ostermark Squeelers. The two coaches had to be separated at the buzzer and the two teams seemed ready to come to (more) blows, but, despite the pressure, Nobla held his nerve and took home the points.

Best Result
Rijssiej (Nordland Skullsmasherz)
MATCHSCORESCORERS
Estalia Gutrippers0---
Nordland Skullsmasherz2Ruglug Bloodtoof, Morg Blackfang
After a strong first win, the Skullsmasherz followed it up with another marker for the rest of the league to follow. A whopping 14 SPP picked up by five players, along with forcing the retirement of Lucia Minx, goblin bruiser, of the Gutrippers suggests the Skulls are heading for glory, unless their march can be halted.

REPORT
= IN MEMORIAM =
For every winner, there must be a loser and, to give them their (final) moment in the limelight, we recognise those players who left us this week:

‣ 'Despicable' Ragnor Deathmaw (Sylvania Gloomfangz) - the Fangz 3rd round pick was cruelly killed in the 1st half of the match against the Iron Crag Clawz, making the Sylvanians the first side to suffer consecutive deaths in consecutive games. Let's hope their apothecary starts to earn his fee soon.
‣ Skargor Bonechukka (World's Edge Kommandoz) - the rookie blitzer was one of four casualties in the clash versus the 'Ardboyz, which might have been wrapped up by the visitors if Dror Bloodsmasha had sprinted over the end zone after a wonderful throw by Blurgh Rockbelly... But this is about Bonechukka, whose brief career was easily overshadowed by an unambitious Drakwald coach...
