The Dark Horses
Beerbog Behemoths
Giants! The Behemoths come into the qualifier boasting raw strength and a fast-growing talent for their core of four giants. Fresh winners of Albion & Norsca, they look to rise up as the competition gets harder and harder. As it usually happens with teams that rely on big guys, Beerbog faces only two possibilities: astonishing success or abject failure, no middle ground. Will the Behemoths turn Summer into their stomping ground, or will they fail when faced with opponents that are organized better?
The year so far
2-1-0, 1st in Albion & Norsca regionals capitalizing on the struggles of their rivals
What’s hot
Few players can claim to have the same monstrous power of the Giants. They hit very hard, are almost impossible to tie up efficiently and are simply too big for many teams to handle. Did we mention the fact that there are four of these on the field? The Behemoths know how to take full advantage of their raw strength and the three veteran giants on the team are racking up SPPs nicely. If they have a good day, the opponents might not even have a chance to win.
What’s not
As it often happens with teams like these, the giants might be their own worst enemies. Coach Rbthma has a bit of a fame of “Big Guy whisperer”, but sometimes the brutes are so dull that they will lose focus or struggle to organize themselves. Even worse, Fwirsvognal comes into the tournament as a complete rookie. Gnorfmangph was arguably the weak link of the core team, but the added unreliability could hurt their chances a lot.
Player to watch
The pixies might be a bit of an afterthought on this roster, but they are essential to Beerbog’s gameplan. As unlikely as it may sound, the best weapon of the Behemoths might be, indeed, a pixie. Bàine Styrix is fast, but that’s not the biggest asset he brings to the table. He’s as hard to catch as Albion’s fog, and his ability to play in traffic is almost unparalleled. Even if coach Rbthma’s schemes are in trouble and the play devolves into chaos, he knows that he can rely on this diminutive daredevil to create chances from thin air.
Key stat
2 – the highest number of wins the Behemoths have been able to accrue in a single tournament. While the Giants have a very respectable pedigree, they have reached their best results in shorter tournaments.
