The Dark Horses
Stone Prince’s Men
The Stone Prince’s Men have been an unconventional but popular pick in any tournament they’ve entered, and for a good reason, as they have shown last year in the Copper division. Always out of the spotlight, the Borderlands team comes into summer once again as a team that is difficult to figure out, but no one can afford to overlook or underestimate.
The year so far
2-1-1, 3rd in the Old World regionals, not so far behind the top of the class represented by the Dragon Hawks and the Noblemen
What’s hot
While it may not be immediately apparent, the SPM can be lethal on an open field. Sure, they don’t have the blistering top speed that others might display, but most of their players possess above-average swiftness. Combined with the nice agility that some of their players have developed and the skillset of the Brawlers that allows to easily open up breaches in the opponents’ line of defence, coach Loew’s has at his disposal more than enough to scorch unprepared opponents on offensive and defensive drives.
What’s not
The Stone Prince’s Men are always going to suffer physicality, and they can’t claim to be top of the class in speed or agility either. The Border Princes’ team better hope that they are able to exploit the opponent’s weaknesses, or it’s going to be an uphill struggle from day one. Coach Loew’s players have what it takes to keep every game close against virtually any opponent, but the line between triumph and defeat is always going to be very thin, and even a pyrrhic victory can spell doom for their campaign.
Player to watch
Uncle Thran is the best player on the roster and the Men’s Wissenland army knife. If the team needs to play physical, the Brawler can bring down the hammer. If it needs to play the ball, he has great skill and speed. He’s one of those rare players that are useful in any situation, an incredible asset that would make any coach envious.
Key stat
-10 – the casualty differential of the Stone Prince’s Men. No other team in Qualifier I has it this low.
