Last but not least, the Gators look to be the team that nobody want to face. Full of tails and strength, the Fimir are potentially a nightmare for every team that prefers to dodge rather than block and are even sturdier than the Sisters. And they also got a chip on their shoulders after this Spring’s fiasco. But will that be enough to transform into boogeymen, or will they just be also-rans in a very difficult qualifier?
The year so far
0-2-1, 4th in Albion & Norsca, a disappointing run that saw them fall to last place just one year after winning the regional.
What’s hot
The Gators have all the tools at their disposal to transform agile opponents into mush. If they can tie up the opponent, they will have few options beyond fighting their way through, and the Fimir are well suited for attrition battles. Coach Araznaroth hopes that reliability, resilience and a good defence are the keys to win the Qualifier, as his team is top of the class in these qualities.
What’s not
Misty Isle’s roster is slow and inept at handling the ball. With the exception of the two Demons, none of the players is a reliable option for carrier duty, and so the team is extremely dependent on just two players to make any kind of noise during offensive drives. Furthermore, positioning will be key for the defence, as any kind of break would leave the Gators exposed and with no real chance of recovery. Finally, the roster has been lacking high-end talent since the banishing of Biròq, which is a big weakness in a tournament where all teams can display multiple players with high STATs.
Player to watch
With the Gators gameplan hinging on getting their hands dirty, they’ll need their chief Fianna Fimm, Odracon the Procreator, to get in the thick of the brawl and score some hits. The big reptile has shown that it can be very dangerous if need be, and it has already history with the Matriarch of the Congregation. If Misty Isle is coming on top, he’ll need to do a lot of heavy lifting.
Key stat
1 – the number of Demons that suffered permanent injuries in the team history. While that was arguably the teams most painful casualty, depriving them of star carrier Biròq, that’s also a testament to how good the team is at protecting their most fragile players. With the Fimir so much in need of help in the ball-handling department, keeping the Demons safe should keep Misty Isle in the chase until the very last games.
