The darkest day in the Outcasts history was their inaugural game of the ill-advised Haunted Hills tour in the Spring of year 7. A frenzied Nagashizzar Nightmares team swept them from the field in an astonishingly brutal display, leaving the Outcasts with only 4 players for their next game. Still the Outcasts managed to display their beautiful style and sneak in two TDs to escape with a draw.

Waystone Outcasts camp, somewhere in the bleak Haunted Hills

Ariel Anstar exited the medical tent, the canvas flapping closed behind him. He looked down at his hands. Blood. Again.
Looking out over the dark rolling hills, he couldn't shake the image of captain Jérôme Jenfyre's fractured skull as he lay on the pitch. It had all seemed to happen in slow motion. The giant cloth wrapped mummy clattering him as he tried to dodge out of the way. The sickening crunch as his head hit the ground. The team apothecary dragging himself back onto the pitch, already bloodsoaked from the three other teammates that had been carted off.

An eerie shriek snapped him from his reverie, and his head swivelled from side to side to locate the source, but there was nothing to be seen in the firelight. The damn country is full of unnatural things he thought, and he decided to get inside rather than tarry out in the deepening evening. Supressing a shiver he strode off to the where the rest of the team were gathered in the mess tent.

As he approached he heard rasied voices, "...remind me why we are in this forsaken place again?" shouted Rhistel Venrie, a linewomen who had only been with them since the summer. Further voices piped up,
"Yeah! Why are we out here playing in the gloom?"
"...all we've got is broken bones and pumpkins to show for it!"

The shouted questions were addressed to Sarrion Gilqirelle, the de-facto leader of the team with Jenfyre out. She slowly raised her hands in a pacifying motion. The voices quietened. Many amongst the team thought she might be a real Elf, not mixed race like the rest of them, but she never spoke about her heritage.

"I know you are upset, I know we are hurting." she said, "I don't necessarily like it out here anymore than you do, but the instructions from Cabalvision were quite clear."

Sarrion's mind called back to the meeting she and Jérôme had with the Cabalvision rep at the end of winter.
"For spring the Waystone Outcasts will tour the Haunted Hills", the rep said, "We've noticed viewership in the region dropping and the Outcasts could bring some verve and excitement to these often 'lifeless' matches we see in the Haunted Hills. Your razzle dazzle aerial game will inspire the locals."
Jérôme and Sarrion looked at each other doubtfully. They had a hard time believing any zombie could be inspired by anything, let alone imagine one picking up a ball and letting fly a beautiful spiral into the waiting hands of its teammate.
"What about our usual place in The Empire?", Jérôme asked.
"Ah yes, we are performing a spot of 'renovation' there. It appears the Cult of Ulric can be quite persuasive."
"Anyway", the rep continued, "This tour will be quite lucrative for you I'm sure. There will be extra gold and we will roll out some stars for your games. The crowds love the stars don't they?."

Looking back at the sharp lines on the faces of her teammates Sarrion wished she had something better to tell them. "Look, the next game is against Lost Lycans Of Lumbria, just a bunch of cats and dogs I think. It is bound to go better than the last two."

Famous last words thought Ariel as the clamour started up again, and he wheeled off to find something to clean the blood off his hands...

June 12th - somewhere near Drakenhof
In their infinite wisdom the CIBBL organisers have again seen it fit to send the team into one of the darkest and deadliest regions in the world, this time Sylvania. Imagine my surprise when I read the missive in more detail after retrieving it from the dog's bowl. We are not to play against these monsters, but to align ourselves with them! I wasn't sure if this was worse. Could these blood sucking fiends restrain themselves in the face of our beauty?
Well my fears were quickly allayed when I discovered that we would be playing against our distant cousins in Ulthuan and Naggaroth. Our new vampiric allies would be too busy trying to feast on full-blood elvish necks than ours!

Here was a chance for us to wipe the looks of disdain off those smug elvish faces, by showing them that we Half-Elves are more than a match for them.
I'd best look over the teams we would be playing with and against to help refine our tactics.
