Beara has played 136 games for Hajduk and won 3 Championships with Hajduk. However he transferd to Belgrad and has won there additional 4 Chamionships and 2 Cups. In 1952 he has won the silver medal at the Olympic Game in Helsinki.

Immediately after being selected to play for the national team he became famous mostly due to his fabulous defences in the match against England at the Wembley Stadium. Since then he was often called by his nickname “Big Vlad”. It was the first time England didn't beat a continental team at home.
He played on three World Cups; World Cup 1950, World Cup 1954 and World Cup 1958.

In 1953, Beara was one of four Croatian players on the FIFA Select XI who played against England. The great Soviet goalkeeper, Lev Yashin said that not him, but Vladimir Beara is the greatest keeper of all times.

"Hajduk were everything to me," he said. "This is the club I sleep and wake up with in the morning. Hajduk is my biggest love."
