Two years ago, Professor Kalan Gearbeard started a personal project that would have the potential to change the career of many a young dwarf aspiring to be an inventor, tinkerer, or even demolitions expert.

Frustrated by, in his eyes, all the wasted potential and energy of his young students due to shackles of society, the professor aimed to create a separate, healthy work environment to further the budding talents of the next generation.

He bought a large, abandoned storage area at the outskirts of the industry quarters and transformed it, with the help of his loyal students, into a thriving little community of engineering and all things mech enthusiasts.

Nowadays, the area is brimming with activity. Small metal huts, storage rooms and a little selfmanaged bar surround a large workshop with different areas of expertise. The students that live here tend to get semi silly nicknames that they use instead of their family names. As long as enough money flows in (the funding is possible due to a mixture of sidejobs, sold inventions, donations through the families, and whispers late at night at the bar talk about a misterious sponsor) the students can order or aquire almost any kind of material and tools to work them. The only rule is, that no student has come to harm.

The last and only rule is precisely the reason for the newfound bloodbowl team. Of course the professor wouldn't dream of limiting his students to "society-norm", that would defeat the whole point of the community. Instead he channels most of the more dangerous and destructive energies of the young minds onto the pitch, where they can happily let lose and test their creative, and often gory, contraptions and substances.
