THE PAST

Dantooine is a tranquil world whose inhabitants remain largely unaware of the isolated incidents when the planet drew any sort of galactic attention. The planet is almost entirely undeveloped, an unspoiled world wrapped in clean oceans, with its exposed land covered by olive-hued steppes and open savannahs of lavender grasses. Two moons orbit Dantooine.

The planet is rich with life, with the primitive hunter-gatherer Dantari -- thick-bodied humanoids who roam the coastal shores -- representing the height of technological evolution. Other life-forms on Dantooine include the balloon-like fabool creatures and stalker lizards.

Thousands of years ago in the distant past, Dantooine was open to colonization. Isolated family estates dedicated mostly to agriculture arose, but the population density of Dantooine remained extremely low. The Aratach Corporation established an outpost there over four thousand years ago, and erected a small spaceport to handle imports for local merchants.

Also at this time, Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Bass established a training center among the tranquil and mysterious ruins found on Dantooine. For generations, this praxeum trained many notable Jedi Padawans, including future Sith Lord, Exar Kun. Though it survived the Great Sith War, the praxeum was razed to the ground by Darth Malak in the decades that followed.

In modern times, only a few isolated ranches remain. During the Clone Wars, the Separatists attempted to conquer Dantooine to keep the Republic from using it as a staging point to blockade Muunilinst. Jedi Master Mace Windu was able to rid Dantooine of its Confederacy presence.

Because of its remote location and small native population, the planet once housed the Rebel Alliance's primary base. Unfortunately, the Rebels grew complacent on the tranquil world and allowed an Imperial tracking device to infiltrate the base in a cargo shipment. When the threat was discovered, the Rebels evacuated Dantooine in a single day. When interrogated by Grand Moff Tarkin, Princess Leia Organa lied to him, disclosing the location of the then-current base as Dantooine. Its distance spared it from being made an example of the Death Star's powerful superlaser cannon. Nonetheless, Imperial scout ships reconnoitered Dantooine, only to find the long-abandoned remains of a Rebel base. Enraged at this news, Tarkin ordered Organa to be terminated immediately.

Seven years after the Battle of Endor, colonists from the doomed world of Eol Sha were relocated to Dantooine to carve out a new life. Jedi Master Luke Skywalker suggested the world to the colonists as a new haven. Unfortunately, Imperial warlord Admiral Daala discovered the Dantooine colony, and unleashed an army of AT-AT walkers and ground troops to destroy it.

The Daggers were a group of smugglers working for the Black Sun Organisation, dealing mainly in weapons and narcotics. The Black Sun is a vast criminal organization possessed of incredible power and influence.

The syndicate's tentacles reach everywhere -- from the polished spires of Imperial Center to the seamiest Outer Rim tavern. Many of the organization's tens of thousands of operatives had no idea that they were benefiting Black Sun, so layered and intricate were the fronts that the syndicate hid behind. Black Sun had involvement in every known type of illegal activity, and its information network rivaled the accuracy and scope of even Imperial Intelligence.

Existing in one form or another for centuries, the modern era of Black Sun was sculpted by Prince Xizor, the elegant Falleen head of Xizor Transport Systems. Serving beneath him are a cadre of nine "Vigos" -- Old Tionese for "nephew" -- who monitor and manage activities in specific territories.

The Daggers had set up operations in the Dantooine system and used the primary planet as their base of power. The Daggers were given their name by a member of the Black Sun known only as "Darkwing" (rumored to be the head Vigo of the Black Suns). It is rumored that the name or title of Daggers has been used before but no-one can confirm this or if it has previously been used , why they no longer need this title!

The leader of the Daggers is a monster of a man named Stu Bacca. Standing over 6'5", wild hair, deepest black eyes and with the strength of a bull its not hard to see why. But it is not his size that is his most dangerous weapon. inside his head is a brain of a Mentat. Mentats are humans trained to mimic computers: human minds developed to staggering heights of cognitive and analytical ability. Mentats are not simply human calculators writ large. Instead, the exceptional cognitive abilities of memory and perception are the foundations for supra-logical hypothesizing. Mentats are able to sift large volumes of data and devise concise analyses in a process that goes far beyond logical deduction: Mentats cultivate "the naïve mind", the mind without preconception or prejudice, that can extract the essential patterns or logic of data, and deliver useful conclusions with varying degrees of certainty. It was this ability that allowed that Daggers to be so successful and to pull off some of the most dangerous and famous deals in all of the Outer Rim Territories.

The Daggers were in the middle of prepairing to leave Dantooine, heading to Ord Mantell to pick up a shipment of stolen Imperial Pulse Rifles when Admiral Daala launched his attack on Dantooine. They managed to slip out of their secret camp during all the confusion and blast away but they ran into the Imperial blockade around the planet. After some quick programming into the Nava-computer, Stu bacca set co-ordinates for a backwater planet in the Outer Rim known as Tejas. After some frantic manouvering and a huge slice of luck (a Battle Cruiser flew across the firing arc of a Star Destroyer scant seconds before it could unleash it sdeadly arsenal against the Daggers ship - the Blade), they emerged on the other side of the blockade. As Stu Bacca reached for the Hyperdrive controls the "accident" happened.

At the precise moment Stu Bacca activated the Hyperdrive there was a massive jolt. A homing Concussion Missile slammed into the Blade. The missile sent its concussive sonic blast through the ship knocking everyone out cold (similar to the effects of a stun ray). Worse was still to come - the impact of the missile moved the ship out of its intended trajectory and negated the Navacomputer thus sending the ship off course through hyperspace.

It was the Daggers Second in Command , Hans Olo, that awoke first. Sirens warbling in his ears warning of a collision, he fought the pounding headache and shuddering ship and awoke Stu Bacca. Jumping into the pilots seat Stu assessed the situation. They were heading down through the night sky of a strange planet, unregistered on any of the ships star maps. Main propulsion was off-line and only maneuvering thrusters were working. He managed to get the ship under control but because of the lack of engines it was basically a giant glider. Scanning the surface of the rapidly approaching surface Hans spotted a huge lake in amongst a vast area of woodland into which he proposed they should attempt a crash landing. Shouting for the crew to brace for a crash landing, Stu and Hans wrestled the ship into position.

The ship hit the water with an almighty force, the manouvering thrusters screaming in reverse doing little to reduce the speed. Bulkheads and stress beams groaned with the impact, outer skin panels ripped off, aerials and antennas were lost to the depth below. The ship skipped up off the surface in a long ponderous arc. Hans barely managed to keep himself in his seat during the initial impact, but just as they reached the top of the arc he franticly clawed at his harness release. It was at this point too that Stu started scrambling out of his seat. The arc of the ship meant it was going to hit nose first and plunge straight down into the cold darkness.

Punching the emergency hatch release button and the loading ramp controls, Stu tannoyed the crew and warned of the impending impact and situation. It only took 7 seconds between the first and second impacts.

The freezing cold water rushed in through the hatches, the loading ramp and the numerous gaps and rents in the hull caused by the impacts. 9 managed to claw their way out of the sinking ship to burst out of the surface, gasping for air. 2 more reached the surface but not under their own power but by the aid of the flotation belts strapped around their waists.

It was Nulis Darkray the Daggers' top marksman that spotted the shore first. His augmetic eyes automatically switching into night vision mode, he could clearly make out the line of the shore and the small wooden hut just inside the treeline nearly 600 metres away. Shouting for the rest of the daggers to follow, he swam towards the shore.

Of the 17 crew only 9 now stood on the beach - Stu and Hans, Cory Leeturus, Nulis Darkray, Lumel Berwalker, Dakran Talran, Akain Darklighter, Micus Orilles and lastly Biggs Skysearcher.

THE PRESENT

Akain grabbed the serving maid by the wrist as she passed and ordered another round of drinks for the 7 Daggers sat at the table. They were still waiting for Stu and Hans to get back from their trip to the lake but they didn't mind much as it meant they had more drinking time. Akain liked to drink but he was starting to get bored of it - it had been 3 weeks since the crash after all, and drinking was all he had done since, waiting for Stu to come up with a plan to get them off of this god-forsaken planet. A planet they still didnt know the name of. When Micus had asked one of the towns-folk what the name of this planet was all he received was hoarse laughter and the well known fact that this was ''the only planet in the whole universe.''.

When the maid returned with the beer Lumel gave her a silver penny as payment. It still seemed strange to him that none of the locals had ever heard of Imperial Credits. Still, with the devious skills and talents within the group it did not take them long to acquire some local currency. Before she could leave, Micus ordered another 2 drinks as he had just watched Stu and Hans enter the tavern.

Sitting down at the table, Stu grabbed Corys' beer and took a large swig. Cory started to protest but the look from Stu convinced him to keep quiet.
''Well i have good news and bad news and some very bad news'' said Stu.
'' I dont like the sound of this'' blurted Biggs, as pessimistic as ever.
''The bad news is that there is absolutely no way of recovering the ship out of the lake and worse still is that because we left in such a hurry there is no supplies or even anything to trade in this rundown town''
''We're stuck here aren't we?'' said Lumel, more a statement than a question.
'' I'm afraid so. I have detected no signs of what we could pass as advanced technologies, it appears we have landed on a planet out of our deepest darkest nightmares.''
''I don't get what your saying'' stated Nulis.
''What I'm saying is that this rotting planet hasn't even discovered chemical based fuels or even nuclear energy never mind ion drives and the like!''
''Well thats just great'' Cory growled.
''It looks like we're going to be stuck here for a very, very long time, probably for the rest of our lives. The quicker you get used to that idea the better i think'' explained Hans Olo.
''The good news?'' asked Dakran
''What?'' said Stu
''You said you also had good news'' replied Dakran
''Oh, I nearly forgot about that. I think I've found a way for us to make a lot of money really quick and real easy too'' said Stu.
''The reason we were late back was because we ran into a travelling troupe on the way back and as we were heading the same way we tagged onto them. We started tapping them up for information on this place and other towns and villages, one thing led to another and the conversation turned to money.''
''They were quite convinced that their was no money in farming due to the lack of fields up in these hills - very perceptive these guys were!'' This brought a little laughter.
''.. and seeing as you have nothing to trade maybe your best plan would be to try and get into '' the game'' he continued. ''It turns out these travellers were on their way to the next village over to support their team so we followed to see what they were yapping about'' said Stu.
''And?'' Nulis asked.
At this point Hans piped up ''Well you see theres this game called 'Blood Bowl'...........

THE FUTURE

Nobody knew about the small implanted homing beacon in the base of Stu's skull except Stu and Hans and the man that put it there - Darkwing. The idea behind the device was to instill fear not a rescue. Darkwing made this quite clear after the operation when he told Stu and Hans that it's sole purpose was for tracking them down should they decide to do a runner or betray him or the Black Sun! But still Stu and Hans clung to the idea that just maybe somebody would come for them one day..........
