Referee Union teams do not get punished for using secret weapons, for some reason referees never seem to spot their weapons.

Referees of Worthy of Mention
There are no Referee teams mentioned in Blood Bowl background, however there are a few noteworthy characters. Max 'Kneecap' Mittleman holds the record for most players dismembered, he used pliers and a chainsaw. Gort Kindersnap and Darun McGloan were also name checked in the background material.
Background
Many retired players become referees, though most are unable due to heavy injury. The most famous player turned referee was Mittleman. After a long career with the Reavers the Blitzer joined the referees union. It was not long before he was fired by the NAF though after gaining the record for most players dismembering in a match thanks to a pair of pliers and a chainsaw he used when ever a player or coach tried to argue one of his calls. He was however quickly reinstated due to pressure from fan groups that actively followed games officiated by Mittleman rather than their team.
As the years went by Mittleman became a legend in the referee union and teams of referees began appearing in tribute to this great man.
