GW Quality used to be worth the high prices (previous version of Warhammer, for instance).
Then prices went too insane, but at least some people kept buying because the quality was just too good not to.
Now quality has dropped hard, but prices are even worse.

Add in the fact they're crapping all over the games themselves, abandoning any veneer of being a real game company and instead blatantly being a "collect all our miniatures" company, and they're in for really rough times.

Very sad for someone who's followed them for nearly 2 decades.

If they want to stick around, they're going to need to get back to being the GW they were in the 90s: Commitment to quality games, including producing games that aren't necessarily big money makers, just for fan service. Or maybe they can just make miniatures for other people's games, drop the GW name, and just be Citadel.

Now that GW has changed their online store in the hopes of making us all buy 2 teams to get 16 players...

Do any of you know of websites where I can buy individual players? Preferable in Europe, but any shop that'll ship to Europe is fine too!

Thanks,

Lao

BB Figs have just opened their doors. Run by the Impact! folks, they are buying miniatures off GW UK, and splitting them up to allow folks to buy individual figures, squad booster packs or LRB5 compliant teams.

Primary Talkbloodbowl thread regarding the launch.

I've added them to the User Guide:

GW is about to cash in with Warhammer online. They have like double the beta sign-ups that world of warcraft did. If that's any indication, watch out... can you say $15 times a couple million customers a month... WoW has been out for a long time and the next big thing is WAR, it's going to do extremely well, even if only for a year or two (until the next big thing).

The Web 2.0 age has pretty much made pen&paper and/or tabletop a cult following. Who needs to buy minis, when they can just sit in front of a computer in their underwear and get all the social interaction they could ever want. Wink

Should be noted that BBFigs is still in the process of getting figs in, so it's range is restricted at the moment, though more are coming every week.

GW is goingdown the toilet a bit and I get the impression that they're really scraping the barrel. The games design and balance elements of their system are better than they've ever been, all the recent army book releases have been both very appealing and flavoured and pretty interestingly balanced.

I assume the recent mail order changes are to help them build a more efficient system (apparently some of the stuff is going to be phased back in). If thats truly the case then I see it as a good thing, maybe if they cut back then they can rebuild from what they're good at.

Considering that many of the most popular RPG computer games have been based upon pen-and-paper systems (predominantly AD&D), I think it's fair to say that the division between games software houses and tabletop games companies is blurring considerably. While the movement of consumers is predominantly from tabletop to computer gaming, there is movement in the opposite direction also. GW could morph into one of the top names in computer gaming, based purely on the quality of their IP - the Dawn of War series is a good example of this happening already.

I do wish they'd spin off Specialist Games as an independant company, though.

On the subject of Blood Bowl figs, I did a bit of brainstorming on TBB about how GW may go about relaunching the game using plastics. It's vaguely relevant to the direction this thread has taken.
