Interesting there is nothing in the User Guide (I don't think) about forums and blogging, and what the difference is. Speaking of which, when should a forum post be used, and when a blog post? Anyone ever delineated it?

I'd say a forum is a topic thrown in open for discussion. A blog is a more personal thing open for comments.

forums are when you want to engage in discussion and feedback.

blogs are when you are journal writing your thoughts and sharing them.

Forums are where you get pies. Blogs are where you get 1 ratings.

I'm not sure there really is a different purpose for how they work on the site.

I think the biggest difference is probably in different types of accessibility.

Blogs stay on longer after creation but once they are gone, they disappear completely. So they are better suited for issues you want to discuss right now without people missing them, but won't care about it a couple of days later.

Only three forum posts show up at a time so there is some serious competition for one of the three spots. But it doesn't matter when it was created or how it was rated, it will bump up every time someone makes a comment. So it can continue for a very long time.

I think, the reason why people tend to move political debates by now to blogs is because due to their more personal nature the administration has been less aggressive in invading them.
And also because a lot of coaches may feel the bump up effect to be invasive, which again can cause issues with others.

If it was killed because of werewolf games then maybe games needs it's own section and off topic can come in from the cold.

Edit: I have just looked at Off Topic and it partly answers the OP.

People often post blogs because they posted in Off Topic and no one responded. Wink
