PLAYER of the WEEK Round 1

Well what a start to the season! All games have a winner! Not a draw amongst it...is this a first?!?

Most games at least looked close..but in a crushing 5-0 win our PotW, with 2 TDs and an INT! is Auric Athenys of the Commoragh Scourges. This is a team we haven't heard much of for awhile...could this be their breakout season?

Other results suggest this could indeed be season for fresh faces at the top. The Hammers are quickly away andthe Lances and Storm have made moves.
Only the Comics and the Warriors have stepped up from last seasons ladder leaders.

Here is to the continued excitement!

Now Go Play!

In the solitude of his tent, Lancelot opens the missive recently delivered by a courier from Camelot. It read...

Heart of Hearts

Mine plan nears fruition. Arthur hath agreed to join the team and thou should expect his arrival a'fore the next fixture. My love, if we art to suceed 'tis of utmost import that thou are victorious as much as may be possible. As we hath already spoken of, 'tis needful that Arthur shines brightest of all your company, e'en at the expense of your own dear self. Lord willing the Lances will be sufficient well placed 'ere seasons end such as to be compelled to offer up one of its own for execution. Thou task be to ensure that Arthur become so accomplished and glorified above all others that there may be no other choice but he in the voting. And thus will we be rid of him.

Do not fail me my love. Grant him opportunity aplenty to make the score. His vanity t'will make it sure he will decline not the chance.

Dearest mine, we must triumph. I can scares't wait to cast aside mine self-imposed chastity so that we might consummate our love at last.

Yours only and none others

Guinevere shoo's the page boy off her knee as the Trumpets announce the arrival of a Herald.

You have news of my husband and his company she asks? Tell me all. But assure me a'fore ye start that dear Arthur hath taken no hurt?

The Heralds reassurance of Arthurs safety is met with a frown as he continues.

Our Knights faced a team of Northmen, fierce and relentless. Their foul appearance equalling only the foul actions of their coach who seemed most delighted in stooping to low blows when'er one of our troupe lay prone. At half's end the score was one a-piece with his Majesty himself thursting aside a marker to hasten downfield and screened by his men-at-arms scored first.

Upon the resumption of the contest, e'en reduced to only eight as we were, Sir Bors mortal wounded the Northman thrower. Despite a wall of northeners Gawain burst a hole through their stout defence for Erec to run downfield. As Yvain attempted to pass the ball to him Bors again sent one of their number to Valhalla by tackling his opponent as the viking tried to intercept the pass. Sadly with zone's end in sight and a downtouch certain five of the Norsemen took revenge by surrounding Lancelot & Yvain and pushing them into the crowd. Tho Lancelot took no hurt, Yvain was set upon and put to death by the mob.

Numbering now only seven upon the field, late in seconds half Owain did take revenge in bringing death to their ball carrier but unfortunate we could not recover the spilled prize. At the very last Sir Kay had a single chance to prevent their equalising score but could not bring his man low.

So a draw it was. Despite their foul tactics did we prevail over them in spilling blood, killing three of their number to balance Yvains loss. Arthur was declared by all as the teams player of value and has already made some advancement in his prowess
.

My thanks Herald, for thine account replies Guinevere. Take back to our brave knights our hopes for further glory. And to my husband, an especial message of my pride in his exploits. I exhort him to bring me further honour, letting no man nor beast outshine his endeavour so that he might be proved truly the greatest among all. He shall have his just reward.

The Olympic Lightning have come good against one of their (im)mortal enemies the Saqqara Kings. A tight battle in the scrum for most of the first half finally breaks open when the ball pops out to Pegasus who flies away to score against the kick off! Then a Hail Mary pass late in the second finds space...and Achellies runs onto it (thru a skele trying to hold it) and the win is secured!
These Kings though have seen better days we think. Down to just 2 Mummies and only able to put on one BH...just not the fearsome force they once were.

Lightning Win! 2 - 0

Nobles win in thriller at Sports Park!!

The highborn of Skye are celebrating tonight after their Nobles ran home in a thriller against the Professional elven side of Activitea Gamers Return. A handy Strip ball turned the Gamers first drive into a confused free for all where for much of the half the ball seemed slipperier than a greased pig until late in the half #9 Dark Star, the weakened but still surprisingly agile linman for the Nobles scooped it clear and pelted it down field to the safe hands of #7 Frankie Olive who took it home to finish out the half.

In a scrappy start to the second half the Gamers used a combination of strength doggedness to run home an equaliser after shutting down a spirited drive by the Nobles. However a bad kick that saw the ball drop clean in the hands of Chi Chi Lopez who saw the ball down the sideline in the next drive protected all the way until a quick hand off to the Dashing Frankie Olive saw him score his second and the game winner in the dying seconds of the game.

A much happier Nobles look forward to the next round hoping to have finally put to rest the hoodoo that dogged them for much of last season, and apparently into this one after last rounds result.

PLAYER of the WEEK Round 2

Well folks you have to go back to Rd 4 of last season to see 2 time champions the Riftsedge Revenants in the winners circle. This once mighty CTL force has spent a bit of time out of the limelight...and things didn't look to be changing with their first up loss. So have their fortunes finally turned? They stormed back onto the ladder with a convincing 3-0 win over the Eagleslayers...and also have a PotW! With 2 TDs and an elusive INT for 8 points it is a week to celebrate Epimira Blackcloak! A stunning debut for the 14th Ghoul to join the Revenants.

Here's to the heros of Rd 3

Now Go Play!

PLAYER of the WEEK Round 3

An odd round. A lot of time passes...not one game report to speak of...even the Lances leave us wondering what may be happening in the on going circle of intrigue created now that Arthur has joined the team.

A lot of 2 TD players this round...but also throwing a completion to set himself apart is Amellia Shak'har of the Commoragh Scourges. Well done!

Now to round 4...and perhaps a bit of news Wink

Now Go Play!

Unannounced by Trumpets, the Herald bursts into Guineveres boudoir breathless with exhiliration.

My Lady, my Lady, thou must hearest mine tidings he blurts out, panting from his excited rush up the tower stairs. He crouches, hands on knees to catch his breath as Guinevere calmly wraps a sheet around herself and ushers out the three naked handmaidens, a dwarf jester and a burly man carrying many whips and chains who might have been the castle torturer. The Herald leaps up with a yelp as the whip & chain merchant squeezes his buttocks with a leer and a blown kiss as he exits.

Impart thine news then Herald asks Guinevere but give surety afore yee begin that thine hurry tis not from some dread event, that none o'our beloved company have fallen.

A look of annoyance crosses her face as the Herald hastens to reassure her to the contrary. And Arthur? He hath taken no hurt? Truly? E'en after three games mine husband has sustained no injury yet? she asks with a touch of irritation.

Oh my Lady, my Lady enthuses the Herald. Thou should'st have been there. A match for all the ages t'was it. Assuredly were we blessed beyond mortal comprehension as our glorious entourage did humble a twice crowned champion team of Undead souls led by by a coach of such renown any less courageous troupe t'would quake in trepidation to face. The thrill and daring, manoeuvres nigh impossible achieved with nary a mistep, our adversay left dumbstruck, if such undead could be struck dumber than their already unatural state, by our display bedazzling.

The Heralds already exicteable account reaches an almost religious ecstacy. And Arthur, oh Arthur, the brilliance and grace. Of our five down touchs he scored thrice. Imagine each perfect executed pass and catch, the speed, leaving tacklers floundering in his path, oh....ohhh. The Herald collapses sobbing in awe.

Herald, recover thyself commands Guinevere. Thine admiration for mine husband is creditable in a servant but I find your adoration .... disturbing. Dost thou need some aid to recover thy composure she asks, opening the door and beckoning for the torturer to come in.

Nay, nay responds the Herald getting up hurriedly.

So Arthur, continues Gunievere, acquittted himself well? He must be making a name for himself now? Mayhap e'en a leading light in the competition?

Of that I could not be sure
replies the Herald, but certain it is he hath practised hard and become now adept at evading his markers. With four scores after just three games clear is it that at his rate of progress he will become a marked man.

Excellent
muses Guinevere thoughfully escorting the Herald from the room.

Outside, the torturer, still naked, flashes an evil gap-toothed grin as the Herald emerges. The sound of whips cracking pervades the still night air as Guinevere returns to her bed.

I was just reading the rat race group page. They are running bounties to help spice up the tournament. With a few changes it could work well with the executions here. Maybe something like this:

Instead of executing them immediately at the end of the season, a bounty is put on their head. If a coach wishes to keep them on the roster, then come next season, any team managing to do a permanent injury on that player earns their team a bonus point.

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Guinevere gently removes the eager page boy's hands from her bodice as the trumpets announce the arrival of a Herald.

What news Herald?

M'Lady I bear grevious tidings. A fatality so dire that I can scare'st bring myself to utter the words.

Guinevere looks at him intently. 'Tis true? Cannot be! As the Herald bows his head in sadness, Guinevere lets out a gleeful scream and embraces the Herald. She dances with delight around the throne room hugging and kissing any man or woman within reach. Hands raised she yells... Yes! Yes! Yesssssss. At last, rid of him I am. Now 'tis mine turn to rule.
Embracing again the shocked Herald, she clamours. And how he died? Reveal all. Spare not the most gruesome detail.

The Herald begins sadly. Against a team of stunted men, stout of girth with long beards and toughness extrordinary. A' napping we caught them on the offs kick and had the pigskin in sight when, belying their awkwardness one of their number whisked it from beneath our very noses and did pass it to a clutch of his comrades at ways half. No sooner had they secured the prize did they stoop to play despicable to scar poor Sir Kay for life. Caught as we were in position awkward from the start, the short fellow was untroubled to waddle to the verge of zones end. Yet in manner most daring and brave did stalwart Galahad, the only one of our company in reach, slay the miscreant in one fell blow. He gather'd up the ball and from deep within our zone, pass mightily to a waiting Arthur to score from position most unlikely.

Yes, yes
replies Guinevere testily, of that I have no interest. What of the death.

M'lady our courageous act seemed to incense the ugly little ones for from the offs kick, did our luck turn sour. Sir Pellinore had a chance clear to release the ball from a dwarf isolated from his fellows, with Sir Erec waiting in position for a down touch certain. But take that chance, Sir Pellinore could not. And thus started a spiral downward that saw us with but two Knights at games end. Sir Bors took a serious blow immediate after and...
the Herald slows, sobbing... And then .... then ... in a blow that e'en our 'pothecary could not heal, did a long bearded one slay our hero. With a nimbleness rarely found will Sir Gawain be ...

WHAT! WHAT!!!!
Guinevere yanks the Herald to her breast and snarls. Arthur? 'Twas not Arthur ? she screams, not in delight this time. Nay Lady he stammers. Though in truth he took hurt a short time after, the injury is not a lasting one.

Arrrghhh! For pitys sake!
Guinevere screams stamping her feet in frustration in much the same fashion as a three-year old having a tantrum. Arrrrgghh she screams again, stalking from the room, yelling as she does so. Torturer? Torturer? My room! NOW!
