Should be a big huge button "hey newbie download the client here!" somewhere no?
I've been a video and tabletop gamer for 30 years and it just took me like 20 minutes to find the thing. (and im still not sure if its the "best" or most "current" version)
This post isn't really asking "where to find" but just "why is it not more obvious" really should be near impossible to miss.
Newbies are going to be the No1 visitor to the main page, and if they have to spend more than 30 seconds looking... thats bad. |

Everything is in the help section but yeah maybe some kind of welcome message when you sign up could help.
To play you just start a game and the client downloads since it's java, to test it out before starting a game go spectate a match. |

ok, so...
the main page has, at the VERY TOP, this:
----
FUMBBL, the online Blood Bowl league
FUMBBL is the largest online Blood Bowl league in the world and is completely free to join. Play whenever you feel like it, or join one of our many tournaments and player run leagues - you decide!
If you need help to get started you should take a look at the User Guide [clickable link, in bold]
------ so, one clicks on the USER GUIDE ----
Getting started
Overview
FAQ
Site Rules
Basic Premise
Quick Start guide
---- oh look, a FAQ! --- click ------
Q: Where can I download the rules for the game?
A: You can download the rules here
Q: Where do you download the game client?
A: All you need to download and install is Java. When you join a game as either a player or a spectator the program will download automatically and/or update to the latest version.

The user guide link could do with being a big button. Or at least having an underline to look like a link. |
heh. underlined links are so 2001. |

The button should be bigger if an experienced net surfer can't find it easily. |

'Getting a game' sections for both ranked and box are pretty obsolete too.
Will I update them myself?....... |

There is a 2014 guide; https://fumbbl.com/help:CRP
But I guess maybe that as welcome screen might be better. It is the first link of the user guide tho. |

to be honest, the OP does make a valid point
perhaps the front page does need a big CLICK HERE button? |

Great guide but still the same problem that both gamefinder and blackbox activation has changed since then. |

I agree with the general conclusion here. I think the help section can be kind of difficult, however I wouldn't know how to make it any easier. I know Garion's simplified things.
What really is a problem though is the forum search function. It's really firing a lot of blanks.
Obviously the OP has missed the obvious and got himself in a right pickle and ended up finding dead java bowl links. I'm sure he's not the first or the last.
If Overhamsteren wants to modify some of the pages, I'm happy to proof read them. |

Aah, those were the days.
But really, if I want to read something I'll be going to a news or blog site. If I want to do something I'll be looking for that big old 'download' button.
OK, so there is no actual download. 'Click here' or maybe 'Get started' or something.

Personally, I usually carry my own wet wipes and often cookies too. Mmmmm. Butter shortbread...
I'd prefer beer & doughnuts but water and a piece of fruit works better for some people. |

If he spent 20 minutes finding the client, chances are he now has the LRB4 one. =P |
