<b>Mully Stopped in 1st Round for 1st Time</b>

The UMT season came to an early end in the 1st quarterfinal game played. A 2-1 loss to the "hammering" Orcs left us bruised and defeated.

I would like to make a comment. Captain used his DP to foul my Saurus, he stalled for an entire half almost, he did ......... exactly what he was supposed to do to claim a victory.

Captain was tactically brutal, not risking losing players unnecessarily. And the 2nd half was cat and mouse, could he hold the cage together and keep me from busting through and either getting the ball or forcing an early score. For those that bitch about stalling remember its up to YOU do do something about it. I didn't find it boring at all, just challenging. Despite any 4 letter words that might have mysteriously appeared from the keyboard it was an enjoyable game with 2 evenly matched teams/coaches.

Anyhow ... we will back back for 1 more season with lizzies before considering a race change.

UMT V Round 4 & 5 Summary
Div A
Having led for over half of the group stage it all went disastrously wrong for LurkingGrue's San Josephina Earthquakes, first losing to lordchaos' struggling dwarves Slowjokes and then being held to a draw by CircularLogic's emerging dark elves, Etheral Shadows. The amazons finish the season in 3rd and LurkingGrue will have to look to next season to have another crack at the play-offs. **** 2nd placed Lizangeles Swamp Beasts almost missed out on the play-offs after a losing to the Etheral Shadows but fortunately managed to win against Brasky's Iron Claws to clinch 2nd place. Their game against BillBrasky's chaos saw them suffer no less than SIX casualties and that may well hinder Mully's Trophy hopes. **** So it was CircularLogic's Etheral Shadows who finished winners of Division A following two wins in the final two rounds to end the group stage unbeaten. They certainly look capable of making a serious challenge for silverware. **** lordchaos' Slowjokes finished in 4th despite a fantastic two-win finish to the season. Only defeated once - by the Swamp Beasts - perhaps the dwarves should've taken a few more risks earlier on to turn those draws into wins? **** Brasky's Iron Claws nearly finished in the top two with a late run but were stopped in their tracks by Mully's Swamp Beasts. This team are probably the roughest ever seen in the UMT with a total of TWENTY-TWO official casualties inflicted in their five group games - that's 4.4 per game! - but despite a reasonable tally of seven touchdowns, their defence only managed one clean sheet and that was their downfall. Perhaps blood is more important than trophies for this team? **** Finally finishing in last place are gamenutter's Mork's Maraurders. Two draws and four defeats ensured they hit bottom and stayed there so looks like it's back to the training ground for gamenutter and his orcs!

Winners: Etheral Shadows
Runners-up: Lizangeles Swamp Beasts

Div B
Captain1821's C.C. Hammerheads made sure they didn't slip up and retained their 1st place thanks to a forfeit win against BK South Park and a narrow 1-0 win over Kyyberi's Blitzburgh Stealers that saw them finish over 100 points clear of their nearest rivals. Only seven official casualties inflicted in their four games played is not a lot for an orc team but their five illicit casualties suggests they are quite happy to use any means necessary to take them the victory! **** SideshowBob's Cartoonettes finish 2nd after solid performances in the group stage. Their league season ended with a forfeit win against the vanished Midgets and hard-fought draw against the Amsterdam Deadmirals to give them a record of 3-1-1. It remains to be seen whether fatigue and wear & tear will have a negative effect on the amazons' chances of success in the knock-out stages. **** In 3rd but some 300 points behind the Cartoonettes are supermagnus' BK South Park. Having played only two games, in which they lost and drew, their league status does not truly reflect their ability or lack thereof according to some their disgruntled fans! **** In 4th are Jinxed's Amsterdam Deadmirals who finished the season with a defeat against Blitzburgh Stealers and the draw against Cartoonettes. This left former-UMT champion coach Jinxed with the unimpressive record of 1-2-2 and followers of the talented coach will be hoping he will be able to improve with the Deadmirals next season or find a team he is more comfortable with. **** 5th are Kyyberi's Blitzburgh Stealers who have also struggled this season. Having spent over half of the league season is last place they were buoyed by their excellent win over the Amsterdam Deadmirals but they were unable to overcome C.C. Hammerheads in the final round that would've given them an outside chance of making the play-offs. **** In last place are kurre's Great Wrestling Midgets who, after a good start, disappeared and were nowhere to be found earning them a lifetime UMT ban despite rumours of foul play involving necromancers.

Winners: C.C. Hammerheads
Runners-up: Cartoonettes

Div C
Division C winners are Tricktickler's Tjofaderillan who claimed top spot from the very beginning and refused to surrender it thereafter although they ended only 74 points ahead of their closest rival. The group stage ended for them with a defeat by Mithrilpoint's Pretty Fly in a classic amazon-norse match-up, but a crucial win against Wotfudboy's Twilight Bandits in the final round secured the Divisional title thanks to their superb offence that produced 10 touchdowns in 5 games, a feat equalled only by the Lizangeles Swamp Beasts. As with other amazon teams, it remains to be seen whether the attrition of the league season will have damaged their trophy aspirations. **** In 2nd are Redfish's Chaqua Coldbloods who basically missed out on the Division C title on goal difference. They finished the group phase strongly with two wins over Twilight Bandits and mymlaban's Bashing Hammers. Their splendid combination of offence and rough play marks them out as one to watch in the play-offs as they managed 8 touchdowns in 5 games and an official casualty rate 2.2 per game. **** In 3rd are Mithrilpoint's Pretty Fly who finished the season tenaciously with a magnificent win against leaders Tjofaderillan and a forfeit win against House of Golodhrim. However Mithrilpoint will once again be disappointed that they have not challenged more strongly for honours despite a fair record of 3-0-2 and it will be interesting to see if he abandons his norse team in favour of a team with whom he can satisfy his ambitions next season. **** mymLaban's Bashing Hammers finish a respectable 4th but their record of 1-1-3 will certainly leave the dwarf coach under pressure from Hammers fans, who will expect more from their team if they compete in the UMT VI. **** Four consecutive defeats sees the Twilight Bandits finish 5th and it seems that Wotfudboy's fortunes have steadily deteriorated ever since the coach reached the final of UMT II in his first season. His dark elf team proved themselves as the 2nd best passing team but their ten completions only resulted in five touchdowns. So, can Wotfudboy turn it around for next season? **** Finally in last place are Trif's House of Golodhrim with a dismal record of 1-1-4. The high elf coach's absence for the last two round probably didn't help and it is unclear whether House of Golodhrim are up to the challenge of UMT VI.

Winners: Tjofaderillan
Runners-up: Chaqua Coldbloods

Div D
Having led for much of the season, BiggieB's Blocking with No Luck slipped up against Slick's Footsie Ballers and even their forfeit win in the final round was not enough for them to regain the top spot. Their fans were further depressed when they learned that BiggieB had withdrawn his team from the play-offs allowing the 3rd placed team to qualify in their place! **** So winners of Division D were bloodelf's Bloodspit after they held their nerve in the final two games, drawing against Da_Todfatha's Pain State!! and beating Footsie Ballers. Solid league play from the chaos team who currently have a 3-2-0 record and their fans will be eager to see their team in play-offs for the first time. **** In 3rd are Slick's Footsie Ballers who managed a fantastic win over one-time leaders Blocking with No Luck before losing to eventual division winners Bloodspit. However with Blocking with No Luck withdrawing prematurely, the free play-off spot was offered to the pro elves and Slick had no hesitation in accepting, much to the Footsie fans' delight. Having started the tournament much weaker than most of their opponents, the Ballers team is still somewhat under-developed and they may have a tough time competing against the more powerful teams in the knock-out phase. However, they are currently the best passing team and this part of their play has the potential to cause an upset. **** Da_Todfatha's Pain State!! finish 4th after a sturdy finish to their season with a draw against Division winners Bloodspit and a win against the plucky Piglets 2 halflings. While Da_Todfatha may not be too happy with his team's record of 2-1-2, the orc coach will no doubt be pleased that they managed a 2nd win after some inflammatory comments, allegedly from the UMT commissioner, that they would not win more than one game all season. Meanwhile Da_Todfatha has confirmed that he will not return next season with his orcs but instead has an evil little goblin team lined up to take the UMT by storm. Already prospective opponents are hoping the UMT VI refs will have had their eyes tested before the season starts! **** In 5th are soultoken's Piglets 2 who must be pleased to achieve two wins, albeit one by forfeit. Their record of 2-0-3 is certainly more than the bookmakers were expecting and they could have caused more upsets had they not suffered some horrific injuries (even for halflings!) **** Last in Division D are the Bloodbeast's who withdrew shortly after the tourney started.

Winners: Bloodspit
Runners-up: Blocking with No Luck

<b>*** Attention all Bloodbowlers </b>

Recent investigations suggest that amazons all over Lustria are killing defenceless lizardmen for mere monetary gain! Evidence gathered by the Southern Nation Association of Keen Explorers (S.N.A.K.E) proves that amazons have been hunting down lizards for years now - transgressing territorial boundaries and violating several international laws of conduct.

It is appauling that 2 such teams have made it into the play-offs when it is certain that their success has been largely due to the large slaughters that have taken place - the hides of lizards bringing in a large profit on the black market. Can we really allow such loathsome behavior to continue, and thus not only leaving the lizardmen to their cruel faith, but also allowing illegal funds to support the 'zon progress in tournaments all over?

<b><Reporter>:</b> <i>"With us we have Trixll 'the Windwalker', head-coach of the Chaqua Coldbloods. Coach Trixll - is it true that you witnessed the merciless killing of two of your close relatives at the hands of the oppresive amazons?"</i>

<b><Trixll>:</b> <i>"It-t-t-t'sssss t-t-t-t-true all right-t-t-t-t. Killed right where they sssst-t-t-tood. Never ssssaw it-t-t-t-t coming, never had a chance. The deamon wret-t-t-tchessss killed them in warm blood! I t-t-t-tried t-t-t-to help but they jusssst died bet-t-t-tween my handssss. They're life ebbing out-t-t-t before my own t-t-t-two eyessss. Not-t-t-t even the st-t-t-trongesssst-t-t-t healing herbssss of Lussssst-t-t-tria could ssssave them... It-t-t-t wassss jussss-t-t-t ssssso t-t-t-terrible..."</i>

<b>*Skink brakes down sobbing*</b>

<b><Reporter>:</b> <i>"It's alright. Let it all out.

There you have it, folks. These females obviously have no respect for the sanctity of life - disregarding all that is sacred. Stop the meaningless murders and finish off the amazons before they can cause more grief! Stop the racial prejudice, kill the 'zons!"</i>

Here are just a few of the reported victims of amazon-aggression:

Chupika of the Southern Totem

Quets of the Northern Pits

The 2 Amazon teams in question. They can not be allowed to reach the final unscathed - do the right thing and rid the world of healthy 'zons.:

An Underdog's Story by Evil Coach and Necromancer Z

At a first glance, the Manifest Destiny of Rot seems like a normal middling-to-high TR Nurgle Rotter team. The history of this team, however, runs a lot deeper than first seen. This team shows a spirit that never says die, no matter what the odds.

Coming from a lackluster performance in the UMT IV, the Manifest Destiny of Rot entered the Super UMT IV Tourney at a bare TR of 167... rather meager when compared to the powerhouses of the SUMT IV Western Division. Not one to back down from a challenge, EC&NZ pushed his team to their limits during training.

This training sure paid off in their first match of the season. Their first game was versus Da_Todfatha's Chaos Dwarves, The Anvilz. The Chaos Dwarves had a 25 TR advantage on the Rotters, but it seemed that the plucky little newcomers had more in store than shown by their TR. They managed to upset the stunted ones in a thrilling 2-1 showdown that cemented EC&NZ's belief in his team. With a solid victory under their belt, they moved onto their next opponents.

Next on the lineup was another Chaos Dwarf team. The Zharr-Naggrund Zealots, coached by LurkingGrue had a well developed team that overshadowed the Rotters by 46 TR. Expecting a really hard game, the Rot managed to hold the Chaos Dwarves back to only 1 touchdown. However, the Zealots had a beautiful defensive line that could not be broken over several attempts by various Rot players. Understandably, the Rot lost a narrow 1-0 game. Slighty dejected, but still hoping for a better result in the next game, the Rot looked onwards.

This game would be the toughest one that the Manifest Destiny of Rot was going to face in the Round Robin stage of this season. Ug's human team, The Green Bay Packers 2003 had a 67 TR lead on the Rotters. To top that immense gulf with even more pressure, the Packers were Champions of the UMT2 and the SUMT 2 as well! The Packers were leading the Western Conference at this time, and the Rot needed to beat them or hold them to a tie at worst to be able to make the playoffs this season. After a brutal and bloody game with 6 casualties inflicted on the human team, a 1-1 tie was the result of all the troubles taken by both the teams. The Manifest Destiny of Rot had dented 4 humans severely, killing a valuable blitzer and maiming another permanently, leaving the Packers in pieces after what was their last game of the season before the playoffs.

With a 1-1-1 record at this point, the Manifest Destiny of Rot needed a win in their last game to secure a position in the playoffs. League Commissioner BB-Pad's Dark Elf team, the Dark side Ravens were in the exact same position. They too had a 1-1-1 record and needed a win to clinch a spot in the playoffs. With all this pressure, the Manifest Destiny went into their last game of the regular Round Robin with high expectations and a fiery passion to win at all costs. This was going to be the closest game of the season, with only a marginal difference of 12 TR in the Ravens favor. The game was close, with neither team scored in the first half, leaving the Rot under pressure to score carefully in the second half. Which they did, and went on to break the offense of the dark elves this time around, and score again in what was a close and tense 2-0 win for the Rotters of Nurgle. With a 2-1-1 record, the Manifest Destiny of Rot had managed to win the Western Conference of the 4th Season!

Keep reading, as this tale doesn't end here. The Eastern Conference of the Tourney had 2 Orc teams at the top of the charts. TrickTickler's Blood and Jinxed's Masters of Misfortune took first and second place respectively. As it is normally set up, the winners of each conference played versus the runners-up of the opposite conference. Blood advanced over an emaciated Green Bay Packers 2003 with a 2-1. The other match was between the Masters of Misfortune and the Manifest Destiny of Rot. This one had complications due to reloading conflicts, and ended up reporting the score after the first half was played, leading to a 1-0 win for the Masters of Misfortune. However, after deliberation, the League Commissioner and both the Coaches agreed that a match off the record with the teams would be the best way of deciding what team would advance to the finals. As luck would have it, the Manifest Destiny kept to their lucky streak against the unfortunate Masters of Misfortune, forcing a second beating on beleaguered coach Jinxed who awarded the game to the Rot after an ugly first half. Onto the finals!

The finals of the Super Ulysses Maverick Trophy Season IV; the moment the Manifest Destiny of Rot had been waiting for. Having braved through 5 teams superior in TR, they faced their toughest opponents yet. A mammoth Orc team at 258 TR, Blood cast a big shadow on their weaker opponents at 182 TR. A difference of 76 TR... the Rot would have to pull out some really nasty tricks to be able to keep this one close.

Which they did. A very tight first half had both teams score on slightly desperate plays, leaving a tied score at 1-1. However, the second half was rather brutal as the Rotters were already outnumbered before 2 more players went to the BH box, leaving them with only 8 players on the field to face a solid Orc team with few weaknesses. When all the dust settled, Blood had secured a 2-1 win over the Manifest Destiny of Rot to win the Super UMT IV Playoffs! Many congratulations to the Orcs and TrickTickler!

Even at 2nd place, this goes to show that a team can make it against adverse odds. The Manifest Destiny of Rot may not have been tourney winners, but they secured themselves a spot in EC&NZ's cold undead heart with their grit and determination. Perhaps they could be an example for newer teams in the SUMT in the future.
