A am 22 and I don't have a job.

ah...I spend most of my time looking at porn and, every now and again, I'll play 10 games in two days, realise I'm hooked, and retire my team straight after that realisation. I then wait about 3 or 4 weeks and I say I'll play one game, and end up playing 10 in two days and, once again retire my team - its a weird cycle (and it hurts, you try retiring a team with an agility 6 human thrower). I wish when I played fumbbl I wasn't at the extremes i.e., playing non-stop, non-playing. Maybe then I would have a long-term team. But I don't seem to be able to find a mid-way Smile

Are you a pension actuary or an insurance actuary? The firm I used to work for as an insurance analyst/administrative assistant is a world leader in both fields, so I am well acquainted with both types. I was actually reading through my old calculus text to prep myself for the first exam before I left.

I'm an actor. When, as is often, that doesn't oay the bills I design and run actor based training processes. Specialising in Diversity.

Which basically means i get paid well, choose my own hours/days and mostly answer only to myself.

Life could be worse.

I'm a court reporter for the AIRC in Darwin. I used to do the courts in melbourne, but i've moved up to sunny Darwin to go to uni - i study Law and Comp science.
I can play from school and home. im usually doing my research about law, or building web pages and programming while i play. It helps me study for long hours Wink
I also smoke alot (not ciggies) 'cause it keeps me focused on what im doing and i block out the real world except my study and blood bowl.
When your playing against me, im probably smashed off my nut Shocked and studying t the same time - how can you lose Cool

I'm a writer/translator -- translating for money, writing for hopefully money some day eventually. I tend to log onto the chat forums every once so often during the workday and browse these forums to keep me sane, but don't have time to actually play as often as I'd like.

It is great to see everyone sharing a little about themselves out here. Great responses, some have even given me some ideas for possible new careers.
@Purple Chest: You have my dream life but I don't know how to go about being an actor Sad . Perhaps you could PM me with some tips on how to start.

arktoris, you're beginning to scare me.

Let me translate for you. Big Brother is the most boringest show to have ever hit TV. I watched about 5 minutes between chatting in irc and had my fill.

Besides, someone needs to keep an eye on a guy named "axemurder" don't you think : )

I'm sure that like me most people would like to go back in time to just before A-level time (or whatever the equivalent might be) and start themselves on another road to a different career.

I've got one of those "cubicle jobs" ... no, not working in a mens toilets, but instead, working in an open plan office, starting at 9am and finishing as close to 5.30pm as I can. I work in a software support... can be interesting, but normally you only hear from people when they have a problem, so it can be stressful.

What would I do instead if I could go back in time... I don't know, something more rewarding / interesting / challenging perhaps... something with a bit more meaning... I feel like Mr Anderson stuck in the Matrix sometimes, working in his building... I just keep hoping someone posts me a mobile phone, and I open it, and it starts ringing...

An ode to my cubicle: I hate you, oh Cubicle.
I hate you a lot.
I hate what you represent.
I hate what you are.
I talk over your walls when I can.
I wish I was allowed to decorate them.
I wish I had a job like others.
Like Shepherd or perhaps the Wizard.
I only two things for sure.
Never again a waiter or actor!

And now, back to my mind-numbing job!

I'm in psychiatry, which means that I'm the guy treating the people with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, drug problems, depression, etc. I love it - I get to spend all day talking to people with interesting stories, there is a lot of variety in my work, and I'm really doing people a lot of good. On the other hand, being on call sucks tremendously - imagine working 24 hours straight seeing people who are pissed off about the fact that they have been brought to the ER.

It's stressful, but challenging and fun. Ironically, it's also the most sane of the medical professions when it comes to work hours - Psychiatry allows you to have a home life and hobbies - unlike some of the others (Surgery) where you pretty much live at the hospital. The pay isn't terribly good right now - I'm still in my residency - but it will skyrocket once my training is complete.

U guys seem to have cool jobs...

I buy and sell furs for my company, and keep in contact with foreign customers from Asia to U.S.A. in fairs.
Boring. Unsatisfying. But it makes me pay my bills. Smile

I am a Cable guy, and no I am not like the Chip Douglas character in the Jim Carrey movie. I deal with the more technical aspects, like making everyones television, phone, and high speed internet function properly up at the poles and behind the scenes. I hardly go into peoples homes. I am outside every day. I love watching T.V. and I love making them work. Its like having your cake and eating it also. I get to see my finished product every day when I come home. And yes I can get you more channels for free, but I don't want to.Smile
